Speed Figures Inquiry

Does anyone have a definitive grasp on the real theory behind Equibase speed figures? I inquired at Equibase and got a standard blurb from the website. My filly, Queen Maxine, won two starts ago at Belterra NW2 15K 1mile on the turf in 135 and change and got a 64 EB - yesterday she was 7th by 3-1/4 lengths in s atarter 16k at Indiana and got an 86 EB. I just don't get it. Would the Beyer figures be more logical? Does anyone know How I could get the Beyer figures for Queen Maxine lifetime? Thanks for any help.

You're not the only one who doesn't get these figs. here's one of a very good series on the main fig makers:

Apparently Ebase is all computer generated. It would be worthwhile getting the speed figs for QM from all of them.

Fact is there's probably a monkey in a room somewhere flipping a coin...
