here is the official statement or description of an "Auction race", i should have better spelled it "Sales Races".

Qute: A yearkling which is offered for sale at the BBAG (German Thoroughbred Sales Company) auction, and dor which a nomination fee of 510 Euros was paid by the vendor before the auction, is qualified in the 2 yo and 3 yo Auction Races. The nomination is marked in the catalogue at the top of the page with the letter AR.
Cancellations/withdrawels must be made with the German Jockey Club.

19 races of this kind are listed and a prize money is over 1.15 million Euros.
