Color question, Palomino foal...turn grey?

I have a palomino colt. The dam is chestnut, not sure what color her parents are. The sire is grey, his dam is grey and sire is palomino. The dam foaled a palomino baby ( we had been told there was about a 25% chance of that. My question is, if the dad passed on his dilute/cream gene, can the foal still turn grey, or is it one or the other, because the foal got his dilute/cream gene, he could not get his grey?

Yes colt can still turn gray.

Grey and cream are on different chromosomes. So with a grey sire, there are two possibilities.

1) he carries one copy of the grey gene, so he's sired grey, and other color foals.
In this case your foal has a 50 / 50 chance of getting the chromosome with the grey gene.

2) the stallion carries two copies of the grey gene-has only sired grey foals in which case your foal will have a 100 % chance of getting the grey gene and turning grey.
