Ya never know what you're gonna get! Our 2008 filly went from this in March:

She got daddy's dun.....see shoulder barring/stripes, and black ear tips:

and on the right side:

That has to be the "sootiest" buckskin I have ever seen! I think she's gorgeous, and I couldn't be happier.

Gorgeous indeed! You would enjoy Saddlebrook Appaloosa's website...couple years ago they had a dun filly Matilda who went from very light as a suckling to a similar soot color. They may still have pics up . . .yes they do! Not as dark, but you see the change. She was sold.

Wow, interesting nice filly. Would like to follow her phenotype in the future. What about her parents, pedigree?
Thanks for sharing.
All the Best,

Jorge, she is a cross-bred....an appendix to be precise. Her dam is a chestnut TB, Ria's Little Angel (shown in first photo), and her sire is AQHA/APHA perlino dun stallion, WF Indian Bill.

The theory is that sooty buckskins are really the cream gene on a brown base. It's still a theory because they have not found a test for brown. Well there is one but it's even less of a guarantee than the dun test!
I personally love cream on brown and cream on liver chestnut!
