Cream Cheeks

Cream Cheeks is considered to be a palomino, and that her color came from Darcy's Yellow Turk but I have doubts about this. She was sired by the Leedes Arabian who was black out of a Spanker mare who was gray. I know that gray can hide any coat color, but Spanker(Darcy's Yellow Turk) is a bay, so he couldn't have passed on the Yellow Turk's coloration. The cream gene(if Cream Cheeks is palomino) would have had to come from the Old Morocco Mare, not the Darcy's Yellow Turk.

We know that Spanker was a bay horse by Darcy's Yellow Turk out of the Old Morocco Mare(granddam to Cream Cheeks). If DYT is a palomino, then he can only pass on a red gene(chestnut) so where does Spanker get his black gene, the Old Morocco Mare of course, so the makes the OMM a black based horse. The Old Morocco Mare is either black, bay, or buckskin, who carries a red gene as well. She can't be perlino because all of her offspring would then be dilute and we know they are not because Spanker is a bay horse.

On a side note at the Thoroughbred Heritage site it is cited that there may be a discrepency about the true dam of Cream Cheeks, who may actually be out of the famous Wyvill Roan. If this is true then is Cream Cheeks a palomino? Is the Wyvill Roan mare really a roan and if not what color is she?
