Phantom Blues

Postby ct2346 » Tue Jul 29, 2008 12:21 pm

One of the most interestingly marked horses I've seen runs on 8/2 in a cheap claimer at FL. Name - Phantom Blues. Four white stockings and half bald to the point where his left eye is brown and his right eye is blue/light blue. I looked at him as a yearling in SAR two summers ago. He RNA'd for 30k or so. Now hes in a 4k claimer. Beautiful animal.

Jorge if you check the dam Northern Eyes you'll find that she has a wide blaze, four high white and blue eyes. Her sire is named Valet De Pied so I'm thinking that there is more color coming from that direction as well.

Wow, how could we get a pic of him?
I wonder if he would DNA positive for the OLWS?
I'd sure want him if he carried it!!

I am sorry that I don't have a photo. But my recollection is very clear on this horse. Too, Nessa is right - it is through the dam that this comes. She also threw a filly if I remember correctly that had the same unique facial markings.

It is a shame that this horse's first race was so unremarkable. If not I would reach in. He is beautiful.

His blue eye comes from the splash gene, not frame. If he was dominant frame he would not have socks or at least one leg without as frame does not like leg white. Splash likes clean face white and leg white over the knee and hocks.
His face sounds very similar to my splash mare, she just hit it under the wire to qualify for APHA papers and have a blue eye. There is hope for her foals.

There is a chance he could be splash and frame but he doesn't come from frame lines.

Nessa,

The source your are mentioning is a culprit, along with the two additional doses from Northern Dancer (3 in total). Then there is Halo. As they say: "we have no more questions for this witness, your honor" :D

Curious names those coming from Frauenzimmer (Ger) uh?

He is a very interesting looking boy - I was up visiting a few of Morrisville's horses, and they are stabled a few feet away from Jeremiah Englehart's barn - I happened to notice him walking the shedrow -- I was hoping to get photos of him the next day, but couldn't coordinate my break at work w/ his race - I'll be sure to post any if I get them - but he is a very very beautiful boy

Not to be off the topic, but I was once told that splash horses are deaf. Is this true? Would my boy be considered a splash?

Not ALL splash horses are deaf, our splash/frame colt is not. It has been written on other forums that being deaf has to do with the inner ear and the white pigment.
