'Officially' :)

Weatherby's took his DNA and used it in their case to the International Stud Book Committee meeting last week...and they approved it!

He now has his correct colour of cremello on his passport :)..WAHOO :)

Truly is announcing that the International Stud Book committee added Cremello as an officially recognized color, and Electrum was issued the first TB papers to ever have "cremello" as the color.

Prior to this, cremellos have been registered as Palomino (the color the US Jockey Club put on Electrum's original US papers)

Congratulations Truly - I know you worked hard to make it happen!!!

You are quite welcome. Hmmm, this case and his circumstances really deserves more exposition. I assign this case the same importance earned by the Thoroughbred that was exported to Germany and forced the official acceptance (within TB circles) of the "palomino" color. This case is worth more information. :D

I have a story to add to his "colorful" history.

His dam, Brightest Gold, is a buckskin who is registered as a bay. Her sire is Bright White, the white TB stallion who was mis-labled by the JC as a grey.

She has a really odd color. She could pass as a bay at a distance, but has a lot of nearly translucent hairs that add a bit of a gold tint. Up close, those are definately NOT bay hairs, and they are much more noticeable in her winter coat.

We had her at the track for a while, and they refused to tattoo her with "bay" on her papers. They insisted that she was some other color... and the tatoo guy decided that he'd be ok with GREY instead. Yikes! This ended up with lengthy conversations between my trainer, the tattooer and the registrar.... In the end, we actually needed to move tracks for her first race, and they had no trouble tattooing her at the 2nd track. (Honestly I think it's because by then she had shed out her winter coat, and looked more bay)

So while the JC insists that they maintain colors for track identification, they didn't have an answer when that actual circumstance occured. And, in fact, it nearly cause a BUCKSKIN mare to be changed from Bay to Grey!!!

So Truly's boy has a rich, interesting family history.

The Alchemist got the same color allowance at the same time. I applied for that two years ago with the German JC already but only with the color DNA approved several months ago and the International Convention needed to take place for this approval of the next new color to happen.

So in fact there are two cremello TBs that made this happen, one in UK and one in Germany. Our breeding director is very open and he was the one that got the Palomino color through. Now we are working on buckskin or smoky black and frame overo since I do have these too but only at the next convention this will then be presented and unfortunately that is not every year that's why Alchemist's correct color had to wait so long.

I am STILL waiting for my Pearlescent fiasco to unfold ...

She is a perlino - double dilute of the bay gene. Along with her registration application was the Davis test results - the same lab the JC uses - showing her to be a perlino

The JC in its infinite wisdom decided that she LOOKED like a palomino (???) so that is what they have registered her as

She is in foal to Guaranteed Gold - cremello stallion

Cross a cremello with a *palomino* and you can ONLY get a cremello or palomino and not the perlino or smoky cream that she may well have so this is going to be a mess going forward - I can just see it now - when she pops out foals that are NOT in keeping with a "palomino" dam ...
