More exciting news for me

Postby SpecialEffects » Tue Jun 09, 2009 10:57 pm

One of my kids is officially going to be racing in a few days! I hope he runs a respectable race.... it's his first so I expect him to be wide eyed and sort of stunned at everything. Being a palomino I'm sure the comments from everyone should be worth the price of admission.

Run Denny Run! :D

Well - as well as that being TERRIFIC news that a Guaranteed Gold youngster is now hitting the track for his first race :D I was also very interested to see the name "Kim Sosby" there as the owner / breeder of the horse in Post Position #1

The Sosby's are who bred my Puchi Trap mare and who owned her at the time I claimed her ...

Small world ... :)

Good luck Denny!!! :)

Bravo! Those are the actions the really skyrocket acceptance of rare colored Thoroughbreds among average people and the horsemanship community. More than dozens of newspaper articles. Congratulations.

Oh the pressure is on! I hope he does a good job for the gold kids everywhere!

I'm very excited! I just hope my other mare foals in time for me to be there.

reedhill - Thanks and not yet. I keep working on it but never quite finish it. I keep borrowing parts of TC's.

Don't let any pressure fall on your shoulders. The most important thing here is to race him safely and to let the events unfold smoothly without any unnecesary stress. His final position in this race will not be equivalent of a failed racing career. Give him his time and carefully select his career starts and he will be a happy achiever and emblematic ambassador. He will succeed and many will be inspired to race their own peers! You will see it!

Jorge.... this is what I LOVE about the trainer that has him. He doesn't care what anyone thinks - including his partners - it is all about what is best for the horse. He wanted to race him last year but he's a pretty big boy, so he opted to delay until his joints were closed. Scopes him, xrays him, u/s 's him... everything is being done so right. I am so impressed with how he has been trained.

I just hope he rewards them with a good solid effort, because there are SO many critics that feel that even though is just as much of a TB as the bay or gray, he doesn't belong on the track. Oh well.....

Any word on what happened? We watched the video, and were excited to see him doing so well in the early part of the race... but it looked like he was pulled up and didn't finish?

Is he ok? Wishing good thoughts to Beyond Blonde and all his connections!

The chart said he stopped & was eased & also that he walked off the course, so at least that's a good sign.

But I'd love to hear from someone with 1st hand knowledge how he is doing.

I watched the race until he dropped off the screen and did not have the replay. If he was mine, I would be annoyed with him being pressed, not allowed to settle early. Hopefully he can go in a longer race and take his time in the early going. Good luck with him. He is a handsome fellow. :)

Sorry for the delay, I just got back from Mountaineer and New Castle PA trainers home base).

Well not exactly the start we wanted to his race career. Poor Denny.... I was so impressed with how well he came out of the gate, got through traffic and held his own for the first half, on his first time out.

The problem is a respiratory issue. Because of the sudden drop of power of the horse, the jockey thought he was bleeding - which as it turned out he was not. This problem hadn't occured in his workouts because (I guess) he could handle the shorter distances, but by the half way point of this race he just got to a point that he was not getting enough oxygen.

They've run some tests and think they know what it is. They're doing round two of testing on Wednesday to confirm. If the problem is what they think, it is treatable with surgery and they will go ahead with it. They were impressed enough with how he started the race to think he has enough potential to justify the cost.

Thanks for the encouraging and understanding comments. :) I wasn't sure if I'd be getting "see, told you these coloured things are crap" comments. Ah heck.... I know they're out there somewhere.

So glad to hear he's safe and well!!

If it makes you feel better (and gives you a good laugh!), my Buckskin mare spooked when she saw the crowd in one of her first races, ditched her rider and finished without him. (And yes, you'd think from the things I read that no non-dilute TB had ever lost a jockey. *sigh*)

Wishing "Denny" many safe and successful trips in the future.
