My new mare ...

Postby TrueColours » Wed Jul 15, 2009 4:21 am

I know, I know ... its nothing short of sacrilege to post something like this without pictures, but I picked up my new mare on Monday, just got her mane pulled last night and want to give her a bubble bath today before I take any pictures of her ... :)

But here is American Iris, by Red White N Blaze out of Nordic Policy, shown as a weanling filly:

Image

I am really thrilled I was able to get this lovely mare. She will be a very interesting addition to my breeding program and should produce some pretty funky and wild markings on her foals ...

She is super sweet and a beautiful mover as well. She'll serve as an "auntie" to my weaned foals this year and will get to learn the "motherhood" ropes with them as well ... :)

Hopefully I'll have updated pictures to post this afternoon of her ... :)

OKay - here you go. Pictures taken from this afternoon

She has a bay (or brown???) bum and back half, bay (or brown???) ears, she's black and white from the girth forward and her mane is black and white as well. The bottom half of her tail is white but I didnt manage to get that washed this time as this was her very first bath, no one was around to hold her and she wasnt overly impressed!

So - is she sabino / rabicano? Dominant White? Splash with the tail and the face markings? All of the above? :?

Is she a pure thoroughbred?
I see Appaloosa "spots-on-pink skin" on the inner upper thigh.

Love it!

I wasn't suggesting she had appy---just that it looks so much LIKE appy.
I hope you give the Jockey Club a nervous breakdown!
I mean that in the nicest possible way.

Wow, what an interestingly colored mare!! That last photo is priceless - that mare looks like she's smiling! :D

When I saw the picture of the filly that was posted first, I said to myself "GOD what has Donna bought there?!" But then the new pictures came and I must say that mare is beautiful! Congrats on THAT new addition!

Actually Bondama if you think that one looks like she is smiling (which it DOES now that you mention it! ) this one makes her look like she is walking away killing herself laughing!

Gwen - believe me. The pictures I got of her were awful and it was tough making a decision based on them. Here is one of them:

Image

and when she arrived as well, her mane was long and tangled and I still wasnt 100% sure what I bought, but once I pulled her mane and got her cleaned up a bit, she is a really beautiful and striking looking mare.

She is really going to be a lot of fun to see what she produces with GG! :)

This case is a very good example of what I call a “Stained White”. That is, a maculated (or even a very maculated ) equine whose coat color is more inclined towards being a white than being solid color.

American Iris: http://www.pedigreequery.com/american+iris

The other counterpart would be being a “Marked Bay” or “Marked Chestnut”, reserved for those being more solid colored than white. A good example of a “Marked” one would be the “Marked Chestnut” named

Sure looks like she's a Dominant White.

Puchillingui is, so is Sato. Red white n Blaze has a 50% chance of being Dominant White, and the mare sure looks like she's got the family looks. Any idea what Red white n' blaze looks like?

The mare looks very much like the Sabinos that are bred in Holland, like Puchi did too. I do still not believe in that Dominant White story as long as nobody has proven that it is definitely not Sabino. Just naming it Dominant White does not make it DW instead of Sabino.
