Just checking, has AIRDRIE APACHE, or his line be proven to be Dominant White? I think he is, via Not Quite White, but he didn't show up in the last published study.

They have not found HIS specific mutation yet, but they are VERY confident he is indeed dominant white. I expect the next paper they publish with the next set of DWs, he will be included.

So many thanks to all of you.

RiddleMeThis, your blog is fantastic !

And I have more further questions.

Is there an ADN test for DW ?

Sabino and DW are two different genes.
So what would be the result of the crossing of a DW horse (my colt for example  ) and a sabino one ?

I have sabino mares (I mean I have TB mares that I believe sabino ; high socks and white spots on the belly) ; see :

Will the babies be more likely skewbald ?

I have seen on the blog that it is thought that the homozygotous form of the DW is believed embrionic lethal.
 Is someone as already try to cross the Puchilingui line with the Airdrie Apache one ? and what is the result ? more abortions for the brodmares ?

Many thanks per advance for your "lights" :D

We do not know at this time if crossing two strains of dominant white could get us around the embryonic lethal issue, but I feel fairly confident it would. The horse would still not be homozygous so it should be fine.

Crossing sabino to dominant white shouldn't yield you any more or less than dominant white by itself except that when the DW is not passed, maybe the sabino can add color.

I don't believe the first mare you posted is sabino... well, not sabino alone anyway. She definitely appears splash. What is her pedigree?

The second mare looks sabino.

The lethal white you may be thinking of is found in the overo gene. Most common in the paints, it is also known in other breeds, like thoroughbreds.

Nope. She correct. Dominant White is thought to be embryonic lethal meaning the foal never gets born. Lethal White overo, also known as frame, is just lethal. The foal gets born and either is put down, or dies.

Here's her pedigree ; she's by Diamond Prospect : http://www2.france-galop.com/FGWeb/doma ... logie.aspx

And I don't see any difference between them two

Thanks.

That only gave me a place to enter the horse's name. I looked at her sire and didn't see any obvious splash. It must be on the dam side or a hidden source.

The difference between them is the first mare's right front (and possibly the outside of her left front). The way the white comes up in a square block over the knee, and just half of the knee, that just screams splash. Sabino doesn't do that IMO.

The entire pedigree is on the low part of the page.
the dam is FLIRTATIOUS IRE (BALLYMORE IRE x HOT PENNY GB)

OK. Thanks.

I have found very interesting articles on DW there :

Wish I could keep up to date with this genetics stuff! But I am taking a biology class right now and that is enough to study.

According to some of the info from the equine genetics forum, the verdict is still out on crossing two strains of DW.

Apparently it depends on where the "mistake" is on the KIT gene. Some might be ok, some may not.

Also the DW embryonic lethal is a very very early lethal, like Roan. No dead foals, or miscarriages, just a failure to implant, and the mare comes into season again.

Only thing I wanted to say is that Roan has proven to NOT ALWAYS be any sort of lethal. there are tested living Homozygous Roans.

Some news from France.

I’ve bought The Gold Fox this winter from two very nice English sisters.
Here a picture when I got him

He’s 170 cm tall and a very kind boy.
I broke him under saddle in January.

His very very first jumps, few weeks ago :
His first ever ...

And for the end of april I'm waiting with a lot of impatience, Snowman GF, born at Gwendolyn's, DW palomino, son of RFF the Alchemist and Shew :

He's 2 yo this year and will be trained for race next winter.

I think you got one of the tallest horses from that breeding program in The Gold Fox. Glad he is going somewhere where he will be of use and actually broke to ride! Nice job!

You'll have to give us many many many pictures of Snowman GF! He was one of my favorites!
