RHF's new Mystery Colored TB Stallion

Hello All, RHF is excited to show TB stallion, barn name "STETSON"!
He is listed on our webshots as paint.
He is definately on the small side, but a genetic MYSTERY!
To let you all know, His sire is black, out of black and chestnut parents, and his dam is grey out of black and grey parents.
We are keeping his pedigree a secret until we pull lots of hair and have him genetically tested for everything!

I bet he's chimeric. I would pull mane hairs that are red at the root and test those. Then pull hairs that are black at the root and test those separately.

I know, I think if I sent them mixed hairs, they would keep asking for new samples, but eventually they have to know it's the smae horse.

I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO glad he is in the hands of someone who understands color and cares to find out what is going on with him. I am just THRILLED about every aspect of this!! YAY!!!!

He's a long ways from Brindle, but could be a big blotchy one?
Look at this pony, how his brindling seems to have blotched into light chestnut and medium gret patches with white overo markings?

I'm fairly certain he wouldn't fall into the "brindle" category as right now the term brindle is based solely on phenotype... a phenotype he doesn't fit. He definitely fits the chimeric phenotype though. He reminds me tremendously of:

We'll know alot more after the chimera tests. If he is a chimera he won't reproduce it sadly.

That white on the other hand should definitely be heritable... and I'm about 98% certain it's splash. *dances about wildly with glee*

Yeah - my vote goes for splash as well ...

Is chimera-ism not heritable at all, in any way shape or form? I thought there were some AQHA stallions that were replicating the chimera pattern on a 50/50 basis. Am I wrong on that?

A true chimera has TWO sets of DNA, and is the result of twins who combined. Each offspring will only get one set. A chimera cannot reproduce its peculiar markings, which are the result of the two separate sets of DNA.

Thank you all! You are right, there is a QH farm that is breeding brindle QH's and they are getting many of them! I will Google and find her farm for here.

Oh yes - remember Catch A Bird well ... but through his chimerism he DID produce some verifiable "real" roan TB's as well, even though the JC insisted that "roans dont exist in the TB breed" ...

But arent there some AQHA chimera stallions that ARE producing 50% chimera offspring?
