Percentage of Black Thoroughbred; Rising or not?

Postby Jorge » Mon Jul 05, 2010 7:41 pm

When I read some of our threads on black Thoroughbreds and the fact that some of those black equines end up not being bona fide black Thoroughbreds, I wonder if the percentage of Black Thoroughbreds is in the rise or in sharp decline. Would really like to read your opinion on this subject.

Thanks for your participation.

I believe on the rise... because people actually breed FOR them now.

If they are on the rise, it seems not many folks turn loose of the good ones. There are some mares out there, but they seem to be very short at 15.1 to 15.3 hands. If any ht., conformation, movement, quite pricey!

Well - I am looking for nice black TB mares, but I want them with lots of chrome which is impossible to find

So - other than my TCF Nightlight filly who is smoky black (so still technically qualifies as black! :D ) I have not really come across any that are a) true black and not dark bay b) have the conformation I am looking for and would want to breed from c) have the chrome I am looking for and d) are affordable

Getting chrome on a black is a whole 'nother ball of wax. You'd likely have to be looking at Halo lines for that, and they don't tend to run that tall.

I am under the impression that the "market" is claiming for a
tall jet black stallion with high leg markings up to the knees and hocks
with a bold blaze and...why not?....blue eyes!!! :D

Have a nice day!!!

I remember seeing a true black at Indiana Downs. No brown tint on him at all. He was registered dark bay of course.

With 4 high whites as well and a white face? Any idea if he was a gelding or a colt?

Wont say anything more until I get more pictures of him and of his offspring ... :)

And no - he's NOT a gelding - he's "all man"!

You'll be the first to know so you can throw him a going away party before he comes north to Canada ... He's actually quite close to you now ...

ps - can you throw big rocks from Texas all the way up to me in Canada???

:x OK that is NOT FAIR... :x

YOU KNOW I don't want a stallion....just a few million of his closest friends...

IF HE IS near me...you should let me know and I can try him out for you....WELL my mares can...

I've got every color but Chestnut and Grey....He can have his PICK!!!

WHY DIDN'T YOU SUGGEST HIM TO ME...knowing that I'm still upset about Phantom

TOO late to breed this year

HH :)

Lets try a guessing exercise for a change from already known sources.
According to Del Mar Pedigree Database, Airdrie Apache has sired the following black equines. Well, who knows if the candidate is coming from one these or who knows…

Aladin Dancer (black h 2001)
Apache Royal (black colt 2007)
Chutara (black mare 2008)
Painting for gold (brown or black colt 2004)
Painting shadows (black filly 2004)
Pdf black angel (black filly 2008)
Rootintootinshoot (black filly 2002)
Ryeesin up (black M 1999)
