RHF selling several TB mares in 2011.

Postby reedhill » Mon Oct 11, 2010 7:40 pm

Hi All,

RHF will be offering several very healthy, well conformed, breeding mares now that are open and after they foal in 2011.
We are happy to sell them back in foal to your choice of stallion (stud fee, board, and vet expenses extra).

TWENTYFOUR KT GOLD
ALLAMYSTIQUE

Some of the mares we are going to be selling are already known to be color producers. Some are retired show mares, retired from racing, or race bred mares. 3 to 4 are sound to ride. Below are the mare pages. Please private message or email me at [email protected] about the mares you could use in your programs. (Prices reflect the current economy, so great time to buy). All mares have conformation photos of front, back, and side.

It looks like you had only chestnut foals by Legacy of Gold (4) with 5 chances left for a Palomino and one for a cremello, right? I hope there will be also some dilutes in the surprise bag for you!!!

but I was right, 5 for this year from Legacy. With 4 down in chestnut, one can only pray to have the palominos still coming.

Gosh what a heartbreak. What I have gleaned from this topic is just how HARD it is to breed for color, when the stallion is not a double dilute. Theoretically you still have a 50/50 chance of color, but you could end up with 1 or 2 out of a dozen???

Yes this is soooo true, I pray to God spending all the time and money was not for 12 chestnuts..........Harry would have to put me in a mental hospital then.
Breeding for higher quality in "color" like we are is financially hard because we only have inexpensive solids to sell, and are keeping the color to breed with. Still having to find screen for good sow homes for the solids.

Allamystique taught me my first lesson about color though, he gave us (4) bays before Alla Aurora (white/chest) came, then I knew we were ok.

If, we get mostly chestnut from Legacy, scientific or not, nobody will be able to tell me that all dilute genes are created as strong as the other. I will then swear by the Milkie dilute gene being "stronger" than the Glitter Please dilute gene. I still hope I am proved wrong, but my gut is leaning towards mostly chestnuts with Legacy.

Dont sweat something you cant control Carolyn ...

There is NO *stronger* dilute gene - it is statistically 50% right across the board so you might get 1 out of 10 dilutes in Year One and feel like jumping off the barn roof and then it will even out next year and the year after and you will get 9 out of 10 the next year and 50% the following year. Its just how it goes but yeah - the double dilutes sure hvae a lot to recommend them, dont they?! :)

Think positive ... ;)

This times 10000000000000%. ALL the cream genes are the SAME. They are all the exact same mutation. They ALL started from the exact same place who knows how many years ago. There is NO Milkie Cream gene. There is NO Glitter Please Cream gene. It is JUST cream. That is it.

I hear you both I really do, and I know you are both right. But "IF" we get no or one palomino, it will defintely make me restructure once again, breeding sratagies.
I will expect the worst and hope for the best to keep happy, as all anyone can do.
