I know there are some wonderful experts on the board with colored TB's, and I'm just wondering why we have not seen a Palomino TB in a race yet??
Is it that the pedigrees are not that good? I was following 2 of them, believe the names were Gold Haven and Splash of Vanilla(?) and they fizzled out as far as I know.
I have to be honest, I did not even know that the JC even allowed Palominos and that TB's came in that gorgeous color until about five years back!
The white TB's have made it to the track, and I am seeing alot of Palomino's being bred, but to MY knowledge, I've not seen any racing.
So, I'm asking the experts on here, why is that? Pedigree? Or something else?
I would love to have one on the track. How gorgeous would that be. And be a winning one. Luckily you need the chestnut to get one, and there are plenty great chestnut stallions and mares out there!
Our farm is next to one that guarantees a Palomino, but as I mentioned in another topic, he was listed when I first saw him and talked to them as a regular covering stud, but now something happened and he is AI only. I'm sure those of you in the spec. color business know who I'm talking about.
So will it happen? Let's get some gold on the track!!!
Anyone think we will see a Palomino in a race???

I have my palomino colt Aurumba in pre training at the moment.
He is with trainer Pat Phelan at Ermyn Lodge Stables in Epsom ( home of the English Derby)
It is difficult to get any colour of horse to be successful but harder when only one parent is a racehorse or neither in some cases.
You have to take everything into consideration...does he have the type of paces to go on turf or all weather?, what distance? what type of race? is he fast enough?
So many factors to consider before you put them in a race.
A good trainer will tell you if it's worth it to keep trying or not.
I think the figures are about 40% of all 2yo actually make it to the track and something like 3% actually win.
So if you take into account how many chesnut, bay and grey TB's there are that don't make it that have racing pedigree both parents, you can see how hard it is for the small % of palominos there are who don't have a racing pedigree both sides to make it.
I hope my boy will get to race but we will have to chose his races carefully.
We don't think he will fast enough to win a maiden at the moment and think with his action he will be suited to a longer distance in heavier ground....so he is coming home for the Summer to mature and will try him later in the year when he is bigger and stronger for that type of race.
I rode him on the gallops today and he is an angel, does everything asked of him and I don't want to ruin him by putting him in a race that he is no suited to x

Allamystique will have 2-3 of his first year's small crop to race this year.
Their names are: ALLA AURORA, STROBE, ALLAMAGNIFIQUE (pending a possible purchase to a racing home)
(3) great white & possible white running prospects by Allamystique from this year are out of mares that are bred very nicely that did not cost a fortune:
EVOLUTIONARY LADY - http://www.pedigreequery.com/evolutionary+lady
(Lady had a white filly (3-7-11) who hasn't quit running since she was born)
PHILLYONTHEEDGE - http://www.pedigreequery.com/phillyontheedge
(Philly is now past her due dae of 3-14)
FENCE - http://www.pedigreequery.com/fence
(Fence is due 3-26)

On the palomino side, RHF is so young at breeding dilutes, we are first trying to utilize a couple of leased stallions we had the awesome oppurtunity to lease.
We had Legacy in Gold in 2010 now Remarquez (overo positive) that we are hoping and praying we get a palomino colt and overo positive colt out of. Any dilute or overo positive fillies we might get would be icing on the cake and keepers for broodmares to later breed to some KY race stallions. Hopefully I will live long enough to see this happen. I voted "yes" to seeing all dilute TB's on the track soon, but in relation to how slow we are going about it, soon to us may be a long time to others. I can honestly say we have gotten more inquiries and beedings booked to Allamystique this year than anyother year. I think the palominos are still a pretty BIG oddity to racing, but the interest is also growing there too, especially with myself! LOL.

Reedhill, your horses are GORGEOUS! I wish I was closer, I'd ask if I could just stop by and take some photos! And talk your leg off about how colors are decided, etc.
I'm still puzzled as to how my blood bay mare's Devil His Due filly turned out bay. I guess the bay is more dominant than black??
But then there is a colt of his I am looking to buy from his farm that is pure black like him and out of a chestnut mare!! What the heck? Also looking at a black filly by him and she is out of a bay mare that is colored like mine is!
I realize that color does not make the race horse faster, but its been a dream of mine since a child to have a pure black racehorse. And now a palomino since I found out they are accepted by the JC!
Perhaps you will have a palomino in the next year or so that is for sale. He/she would have a forever, loving home.

It has to do with genetics. IF your mare is homozygous for Agouti she will NEVER have a black foal. No matter what stallion you breed her too. The chestnut mare could be "Aa" or "aa" and thus easily be able to have a black foal when bred to the right stallion. But then there is a colt of his I am looking to buy from his farm that is pure black like him and out of a chestnut mare!! Read the first two posts on my blog for Extension and Agouti and that should help clarify it for you some more.

Thank you Riddle,
The whole color genetic thing sure is something.
I am not going to breed her, I will just purchase from the sales or from the farms direct in the future. Helps give them homes and with the economy, you can't beat the prices!
It is a facinating subject. She has a white star on her head, but yet the foals came out with big white blazes and we were like "where did THOSE come from?!"
Someone wanted to lease her as her sire was the North American broodmare sire of the year a few years back, but I declined. No more babies for her. I think it would be fun anyway to find the right horse I'm looking for and give them a chance to make it. Heck, I wish I could buy every one of them that need a home!
Thanks for the input, as I said this is such an interesting subject!
