Color question

Postby zipperfoot » Tue May 29, 2012 5:32 pm

Saw this guy last week (nice!). 4 jagged-edge white socks, white lower lip, so sabino, right?

Where does he get his color?

Thanks!

Bull Lea's doses and the presence of a black or near black sire
makes one think there may be a fair possibility but I can't assure it.
He is too conservatively marked to sound the whistle but who knows.
Some of the most flamboyant cases I have seen come from parents just like this one, but again, anybody's guess.

If Puchilingui is there, then that's another story!

Thanks Jorge, but I'm confused--who is Dodge's Snow Bird?

What is the relationship between Dodge's Swow Bird and Turkowar? I don't get it either.

TURKOWAR: For me the double presence of My Babu and Bull Lea is very helpful. Not necessarily in a definitively factor (like if we were talking about Northern Dancer or Halo) but certainly not a spoiler. Then there is Olympia, son of the very-helpful Heliopolis, son of the one-man-gang of color oddities, Hyperion. Then there is Never Bend, always a very underscored source of flamboyance. Also the presence of is Son-in-Law is quite helpful. Not to mention the remote proven doses of Black Toney. These are the more evident.

DODGE’S SNOW BIRD: Storm Bird/Northern Dancer are quite powerful sources. Secretariat doesn’t bother either. Then there is Sadair, a rarely seen source who nevertheless has proven to be capable of transmitting very high white leg markings with big blazes. PUCHILINGUI needs no presentation on his powerful merits as a transmitter of flamboyance. Note that second dam Candy Steppes (1979) is carrying Alibhai (by Hyperion) and My Babu through Ring For Nurse (1967). In short, there are too many small names and big names to take into consideration as responsible for herphenotype.

Always keep in mind that when we talk about all these names we are talking about factors that may increase the possibilities but remember that whether these specific factors are playing THE ROLE is anybody’s guess.

So it's not so much a few obvious contributors, such as ND or Puchilingui (as in Dodge's Snow Bird), but a combination of many less obvious contributors, each contributing a bit of "sabino-ness?" That makes sense. I just had a hard time finding any obvious sabinos in his pedigree, though I have to admit I forgot about Hyperion.

Thanks for the excellent explanation Jorge!
