If you go to the race video

you will observe that at frame 2:11, the winning jockey
was about to steer his mount to the outside, towards
Prestige Vendome, but lucky and immediately he corrected
his erroneous maneuver and changed direction to the inside
of the track, where a hole just opened and the rest was history.

That brilliant split-second decision along with his whole
patience ride was a big difference.

Thank so much for your valuable posting at the RP.
Certainly, The Grey Gatsby is impressively ascending in racing
quality with each race (even when finishing below third place).
Overall I really enjoyed his performance, albeit
I would have liked a sooner inside move from him just before
Australia started his overpowering outside rush (a move that ended up sort of compacting the field)
and closed a gap that had opened, and close the opportunity for TGG to save more ground
than he was already saving. In spite of this missed oportunity, he accelerated to the outside
in a way it looked auspicious but the great might that lives in Australia really emerged.
You cannot give this horse any advantage.

Apropos Australia, I have a question for all our readers regarding this extraordinary racehorse:
What European sophomore do you think has the ability to consistently defeat him between 10 and 12 furlongs?

The Grey Gatsby's pedigree is like a Nearco/Native Dancer/Nearco/Native Dancer layer cake! All the 'leading lads' of both sire lines seem to be represented in successive 'return' breedings.

From his racing record/performance to date he obviously has inherited the class, the trainability and good mind speed and the classic distance capability of his heirs....not to mention those 'looks' ( ) sox and all!

Jorge, I would like to see Australia compete against Taghrooda, but I think this will not happen. When the filly wins the Yorkshire Oaks today, she will run in the Arc, while Australia might go to the Breeders', since O'Brien thinks he is more a a mile and two furlong horse.

Just like Treve the Taghrooda bubble is burst.

Taghrooda got 15lbs when she won the King George and Treve 11lbs winning the Arc - both are good fillies but getting that weight over 12f is in their advantage - today at level weights against her own sex she was beaten by another good filly.

If Taghrooda is going to the Arc she will be getting the big weight allowance like Treve did last year and will have a chance to win as she is still a good filly.

People forget the weight for age scale when rating these fillies.
