Frankel Payout
I bet Frankel to win and place on twinspires.com in the US. The payout on the place bet was exactly the amount I bet. In other words, I won nothing. However, the Racing Post online indicated he paid 1.40 to win and 1.02 to place. Therefore, I should have been paid $2 if I had bet $100 on Frankel to place. Right?
Someone at twinspires tried to convince me that overseas, the return on betting a heavy favorite can actually be *less* than the amount bet. Can this be true?

Frankel Payout
I meant to ask if a $100 place bet should have earned $102, for a *net gain* of $2.
