Australians love German-bred Tbs and there have been some remarkable importations in recent times. But what is the purpose of running proven stayers of good to high class, imported to Australia from Germany, in races of less than 10 furlongs? This seems useless and the bad results this season from Perfectionist, (Our) Ivanhowe and Swacadelic prove this. Why running horses not on their best distances, especially if there is, the Melboune Cup a target of these horses?

Aussie trainers don't race stayers first up(from a spell) over a trip like they do in Europe. Most of the time they will start them at 1600m, not expecting them to win or anything but at least have them finish the race full of running like its trackwork.

For some foreign horses, it might give them extra zip they never had when they raced in Europe, but more often than not it doesn't make a difference and becomes counter-productive like we have seen from the horses you've mentioned.
