Hello,
one more great success for a Germanbred racehorse! :D :o

Torquator Tasso (by Adlerflug) wins as big outsider the 100th running of the ARC, with his permanent jockey Mr. Piechulek, second placed Tarnawa and 3rdplaced Hurricane Lane.

regards, Bettina

In my over-exitement this weekend I did something completely wrong and my post had disappeared.
Let me tell you a fairytale that came true on sunday at Longchamp.
For many years Mr. Paul Vandeberg from Hilleshagen, a village near Mechelen in the south of Limburg, breeds thoroughbreds. I found the mare Manuela in the Dutch Studbook in 1967. Her granddaughter Hilleshager Lady was third in the Dutch Derby in 1986.
Vandeberg bought in 2016 privately Tijuana (v. Toylesome), with a foal at foot and in foal to Adlerflug. The colt was later renamed in Torquator Tasso, as German names always have to begin with the same character as their dam. The colt was sold in 2018 at the Sales in Baden Baden to Gestüt Auenquelle and put into training with Marcel Weiss, in his first year of training. At his second start as a 3yo, he broke his maiden at Cologne and finished second in the German Derby behind In Swoop. He also won the Grosser Preis von Berlin in Hoppengarten. He was voted Horse of the Year 2020 in Germany.
This year he won the Grosser Hansa Preis and the Grosser Preis von Baden, both at Baden Baden racecourse.
You may say the circumstances were very much in his favour (soft going) as for many Adlerflug offspring.
His pedigree is beautiful, both his sire and dam belong to the famous ''A'' family, of which Allegretta, granddam of Galileo stands out.

This is the greatest success a breeder can have, when a horse he raised, wins the most prestigious race in Europe.

Hello, Erins Isle,
Many thanks for your congratulations and the "background Info" about his breeder.

According by info, Tijuana is now, back at her breeder stud "Schlenderhan". Sadly her broodmare Sire Toylsome was sent to Russia.

best regards, Bettina

There was a little mistake in my story:

TT won the Großer Hansa-Preis at Hamburg, not Baden-Baden, and Tijuana was leased to Paul Vandeberg with the contingency to return the first filly from her offsprings to Schlenderhan (so Gebhardt Apelt in a Racebets-Podcast about Schlenderhan a year ago:

Tomorrow.."one horse who does intrigue me a little bit is the Jean-Claude Rouget- trained Al Hakeem.

Anyone looking for a big outsider to back each-way, meanwhile, should give Japan’s Do Deuce careful thought at around 28-1.

The Japanese Derby winner travelled noticeably well until tiring in the closing stages of the Prix Niel last month and should find plenty of improvement for his first start in over three months.

Great race, awful circumstances, rain, rain, rain. Alpinista is a worthy winner, too good for Vadeni and Torquator Tasso, who got a wonderful ride from Franky Dettori. First Arc winner for Kirsten Rausing and trainer Sir Mark Prescott. Both are not exactly new in the racing scène. Mrs. Rausing already has horses with this trainer for 36 years.

Good pedigree the horse that Frankie Dettori rides....10/1 today could be shorter odds on Sunday

Hi Taffy,

May the best horse win, I saw Frankie yesterday winning at Newmarket on board Trawlerman poetry in motion...such a pity not to see him any more soon. He has ''hands'', not many jockeys have those skills. Desperate when a horse stops, they use the only thing they think will help: the whip and not once but many times.
I do hope you enjoy this weekend!

Hi,
Good to see you post "may the best horse win" too many people bet on the jockey, which is my worry about the Frankie factor
