Postby Shannon123 » Sat Dec 23, 2006 10:57 pm

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could please look up info on him, I have searched everywhere with no luck. I have his lip tattoo also but that has come up with nothing either. Any information would be great,

Thanks

I'm afraid I can't find any horse registered under that name. Are you certain of the spelling?

Thanks for trying,
I really am not sure if his name is spelled right. I now am even wondering if that is his name at all. A friend of mine rescued him not to long ago and that was the name that came with him, no papers though. She searched for awhile also with know luck either.

We have tried to research his lip tatoo as well but no horse matched it, but then we still are not exactly sure of the letter since it looks smeared.

The one thing I do know is that he was raced in Canada at some point.

Thanks again,

As has been suggested (apparently with some success) on another thread, you might be able to get a clearer view of his tattoo using a U.V. light.

Thanks,
I think I will try the UV light.

We were not able to see the tatoo before the dentist came out to do his teeth, but is their any tricks that might help me look at his lip? He still is very spooky so I was just wondering.

Thanks again,

:D You could try worming him.

Most horses really don't like the taste of Ivermectin and they will curl out their upper lip (flehmen response) when they've been wormed. Should give you a pretty good look at it.

Did the equine dentist give you an accurate age for the horse? Usually you can work it backwards to figure out the letter (if it IS a letter) based on how old the horse is. For example, if he is 7, he would have been born in '99 which would be a "C" at the beginning of the tattoo. 1996 was Z, '97 "A", '98 "B", etc. A competent dentist should be able to judge age pretty accurately by his teeth.
So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....

Thanks for the tip,
Our dentist said that Chip was around 16-17 years old. His lip tattoo looked more like a D, but he figured that it had to a S since he couldn't be older then 18.

He's due to be wormed in a few weeks so I will have to try the UV light then, unless I can keep him calm while I check the tattoo.

Thanks again,
