Help with Chester Cup winners

Postby byanose » Sat Aug 01, 2009 8:38 am

I am trying to complete the list of winners of the Chester Cup

I have the following I would be grateful for assistance with

1871

1 Glenlivat br.c 1867 by Dundee

There is a discrepency in information here regarding his damline

Bloodlines reports - Chanticleer Mare (f 1852), dam of the stallion D'Estournel (br c 1864 Parmesan), and 2nd dam of the Chester Cup winner Glenlivat (b c 1867 Dundee).

Whereas elsewhere his dam is given as Morning Dew (Voltigeur)

I favour the latter as the race report gives his dam as being Morning Dew.

Placed horses were
2. Mortemer Ch.h 6yrs (Compeigne x Countess)
3 Our Mary Ann Br.m 6 yrs (Voltigeur x Garnish)

1932

1. Bonny Brighteyes - no information
2. Blue Vision
3 Up Majeura ? difficult to read

1935

1. Damascus - no information other than the owner was G. Lambton and the jockey was H. Foster

2. Cecil - owner Sir A. Bailey Jockey T. Weston

I think you may have misread Bloodlines (or I'm misreading your post  ). It isn't saying the Chanticleer mare is Glenlivat's dam, but his *second* dam. Morning Dew is out of the Chanticleer mare.

No luck on the other two as yet, but I'll keep looking.
