Hi Folks....
I'm missing the ASB showing when *PIZARRO, was imported into the US..and by whom?
*PIZARRO was a bay horse, 1916 (Bonarosa - Becky x John O'Gaunt)
My missing ASB is vol 14 (XIV)....he does not appear in 12, 13, 15, etc.
He was in the US in 1921 as a Remount Stallion in California and lived his life here until his death 1936.
Thanx....Pat
*PIZARRO (Foaled 1916)

If you're compiling a record for him, search on the name "Pizarro" then select the results for the 1910's and 1920's. Eventually you'll get to a page that sorts the hits by pp's, results, etc.

A good way to initiate a search for the 1920s (and earlier) is to use Google News Archive:
http://news.google.com/archivesearch/advanced_search
There are 4 boxes and the 2 date boxes. In this case, I inserted "furlongs" in the top box and "Pizarro" in the second box, along with 1918 and 1921 in the date boxes. It yielded two dates (June 7, 1919 and June 24, 1920, Latonia, 3rd race) for old Pizarro. (Tip: "furlongs" usually weeds out non-horse racing news material, but "also ran" in the second box sometimes develops others not yielded using "furlongs")

Using those dates, then proceed to the old DRF material in the Kentuckiana site.

Using the 6/24/1920 DRF, I found the past performances for Pizarro. In addition to 6/24/1920, he ran six races previously, 4 more at Latonia and 2 at Churchill Downs. He was not a very good racer, finishing no better than 7th in any of his races.
According to DRF, his first start was on 6/5/1919 in the 3rd race at Latonia:

His other starts
6/7/1919 Latonia
6/19/1919 Latonia
5/17/1920 Churchill Downs
5/31/1920 Churchill Downs
6/11/1920 Latonia
6/24/1920 Latonia
Whether that was his last race will require more research. It's possible that the owner gave up after watching his poor guy go off at over 300-1 odds.
