Average Winning Distance (AWD)

Postby dray33 » Wed Nov 18, 2009 7:27 pm

Does anyone have a handy breakdown of AWD for the top 25-50-100 sires? Giants Causeway looks high, is he the highest? Thoughts on the AWD statistic specifically?

I think it is more valuable than dosage and nicks. It tells you about the mares he was bred too also. With my own horses, it tells me how potent the stallion is in determining the win distance of his offspring. When we know the awd of both the mare and sire we can better predict what the mating will produce. But even if we can predict the distance, we get a dud if we fail to look at soundness and speed and running style.

You can go to the TTimes online by state leaders by earnings and find what you want. I guess Kentucky would be the place to find the stallions who throw the longest runners. If you can't find it, let me know and I will post the address.
