MIss Baily (USA) 1820 Chestnut

Miss Bailey (Chestnut) is listed as having two foals, both grey and neither is by a grey stallion.
1. Fanny Jarman GREY (USA) 1832 by Mercury (USA) 1823 BAY
2. Lucy Dashwood GREY (USA) 1840 Leviathan (GB) 1823 CHESTNUT

I've tried to do research, but keep coming up with the fact that these pedigrees are correct from several different sources.

Obviously, there's a source for grey at Tayloe's Bellair II, sire of Miss Bailey's unnamed dam. That Bellair Mare is entered ASB 1:213 as a ch, as are her daus. Hayne's Maria & Miss Bailey. But no coat color is given for Miss Bailey in her own produce rec. 2:89. Under Miss Bailey same page Lucy Dashwood is reported as ch, but in the latter's own produce rcd. her color is given as gr.

Most plausible scenario: entries reporting the Bellair Mare, Miss Bailey, and Lucy Dashwood as chestnut were based upon foal or base color, not adult coat.

Rats, what a logical answer. I guess we were all hoping for another line of Dominant Whtie horses. :)
