Old GP, GS designations for track

Postby Joltman » Tue Jan 03, 2012 12:17 pm

Going through some very old (1960s era) DRFs I came across track designatiions of 'GP' and 'GS'. My first thought was that this was Gulfstream but a different designation? Horse I was looking at went back and forth to them - apparently a major circuit since Old Hat was a competitor there. Hia leah was separate of course, but maybe Tropical Park was still around?

any ideas?

thx

GS was indeed Garden State, per the 1966 American Racing Manual. GP was Gulfstream then as now.

thanks folks.

It was confusing because they toggled back and forth in the spring, with as little as 2 weeks between races.
