Adding horses - used to be the sire/dam boxes were strictly blank. Now they have a hyphen "-" in them which if not replaced with a word/name, makes you choose between "horses" called "-" and the "none of these" - which creates MORE "-" horses. This happens EVEN if you delete the "-" and leave it blank.
So far, they are all females which are "-" entries.
I hope this is just a temporary glitch with all the work that is going on now to fix things we've all known for ages already. If not, it is just stupid for automatically creating more useless entries.
New weird thing with hyphens in "add" - hope this

Actually, it's OK to leave a sire/dam field empty - in fact, it's the only way to submit a research request. If # is used, there won't be an option to research the pedigree further, and the DB will assume the pedigree is as complete as it's ever going to get.....it'll just stay 'unknown' unless someone who happens to know the pedigree stumbles across it.
No idea what the dashes mean, but it must be another new kink in the ongoing repair work. I'd hold off on adding horses with incomplete pedigrees until they get things straightened out.
