Question about color codes

Postby irish634 » Fri Mar 09, 2012 7:42 pm

Hello, I am completely new to this and am trying to learn. I have a very basic questions.

Can anyone tell me the meanings of horse color codes?
I assume:
ch = Chestnut
b = bay
br = brown
gy = gray
I have seen some others and combinations of others that I am not sure of the meaning. Is there a list posted somewhere?

I apologize in advance for the very basic questions.
Thank you.

Gray is usually abbreviated as gr. Otherwise, the above list is consistent with the usage of many breed registries. There is considerable variance among their color codes. The link below is to the Jockey Club's guide.
