Nowhere have I ever found an explanation of what the green stars (asterisks, *) represent which sometimes appear beside a horse on the pedigree format. I'm quite sure in the past I've also seen red, but if I did, nowhere near the frequency of the green.
What are these * for?

* indicate a horse with a picture in the database.
* indicate a mare that is considered a 'reign de course'.
