Mating advice

Postby Shergar » Sun Mar 13, 2005 9:30 pm

Need mating suggestions for mare MISTY MURRCEDES. 1996 out of misty writer, by Murrtheblurr. As for her conformation, she is a bit heavy boned, but not a very tall horse. No conformatin problems such as toeing in or out, not back at the knees etc. She is a minor black type winner of 46k. She was an extended sprinter/miler.

Looking for a stallion in the West/Pacific Northwest with a stud fee of no more than 5-7k. Breeding to race, not to sell.

Have a free breeding to Tavasco, but not sure if want to have 4x5 to Northern Dancer. Especially since Tavasco is built like a tank!!

Thanks for any help for this ignorant newbie to the breeding process.

Congratulations--you have a tough filly from a nice family.

Your mare has a stakes winning half-brother by a Seattle Slew-line stallion, so that is one approach. Given that, you can try for WA sire Slewdledo, standing for 4k.

Hi CR,

A nice mare, I assume the West includes California, right?

I think a great stallion for her would be Slewvescent, a sire of the Big-Time horses Tout Charmant and Lazy Slusan from a very limited quality and quantity of mares (he actually has only 159 of racing age reported at Equineline, and he's perfect for someone breeding to race).

He also sired San Juan Capistrano (GI) Winner Ringaskiddy and has an excellent AEI/CI of 1.70/1.04.

The basic idea behind the mating is:

A. Slewvescent is by Seattle Slew and the mare's dam threw a MSW to another son of Seattle Slew. And the mare's sire was damsired by Cornish Prince, a relative of Seattle Slew who has nicked very strongly with him in the GI Winners American Chance, Seattle Meteor, Honest Lady, Golden Ballet, and the very fast Dominican Champion 2 YO Filly Dama Feliz (who demonstates that this pattern can work in the context of Prince John).

B. Note also that Slewvescent's number one daughter Tout Chamant is out of a granddaughter of His Majesty, who is of course the 2nd damsire of your mare; and also note that Slewvescent's damsire Herbager combined with Misty Murrcedes's grandsire Torsion in none other than the San Rafeal (G2) Winner and Santa Anita Handicap (GI) Runner-up named Masterful Advocate; who is second only to the filly Miss Huntington amongst Torsion's progeny in earnings (and also in class).

And also, Slewvescent is a very good deal for the money and his 4x5x5 inbreeding to Nasrullah should be a good for your mare's being 5x5 to Nasrullah's nick partner Princequillo and tracing back in the female family to Mumtaz Mahal, who was none other than Nasrullah's granddam.

Starmanic is a horse that I would consider.

Hi!

My cousin owns a graded stakes placed son of Septieme Ciel and out of a sister to Hawkster. His name is Starmaniac and he is in Idaho Falls. Crossed with Starmaniac you would get 5x6x6 Roman, 5x6x6x7 Nasrullah. You would also get 6x6 on the great broodmare Mah Mahal. He is a good runner and you should be able to get to him reasonably.
