How close is too close?
I went to a stallion show today to look at 2 possible matches for my mare. While I was there a different stallion caught my eye and I felt he was a perfect match for her while the other 2 were not. Turns out if I use him I wil Be inbreeding 3s x3D. It scares me a bit. Anyone out there have any experience and/or advice? There is only one other duplicate much farther back.
Re: How close is too close?
Hello,
from memeory I recall at least 3 Thoroughbreds, who later became successful Sire.
The first one is "The Tetrarch", 3x3 FB/FS Bend Or/Rouge Rose, see Mumtaz Mahal Family.
Kalamoun, 3x3 Nasrullah/Rivaz (Kalaglow, Bikala, Kenmare, Kampala and later Highest Honor)
OPne example from my home country Lando, 3x3 FS/FB Literat/Liberty, very good racehorse (German Derby, Japan Cup, 2x Grosser Preis von Baden) and succesful Sire (Gonbarda, Paolini, Intendant, Epalo etc.)
Such kind of breeding is of course taking a risk, but it can have some merits.
Best regards from Germany,
Bettina
