Siphon

In researching potential broodmares, I ran a hypo-mating on Siphon and receievd a Werk Nick rating of A++ (+75325%) based on a Siphon - Carson City cross . I wondered, :?: :?: "Is this for real?" :?: :?: Reviewing the PQ progeny DB for Siphon I find 4 breedings with Carson City as the broodmare sire. Based on the DB Sharp Impact and Siphon City are both multiple stakes winners, No record is reported for Kids Today 1999 F and Gerigan a 2003 colt. Helping out Siphon City is the fact that Secretariat is the sire of the tail female grand-dam. I don't believe the female lines are taken into account by Werk.

The mare I am considering is by a son of Carson City, so is one generation removed from the breeding discussed above. Carson City is also the sire of Barbaro's dam. I am not sure if we are in fact seeing a strong nick or rather an indication that Carson City is an excellent broodmare sire.

Siphon seems to be a durable runner, winning several stakes including the Santa Anita H G! at age 6. As Siphon is a relatively affordable stallion, I would be interested in your comments on both Siphon and the potential nick.

Thanks in advance

Chuck
Pls note I editted post to correct an error I made re Kids Today. - Sorry

With only 4 breedings to a Carson City mare and positive results, this nick will bear watching.

Siphon has stamina and a late maturing family behind him, the older they get the better they get.

A TB breeder must look at the female family to find those cluster mares that will add golden nuggets to those superior runners.

Only a fool will look at the sire line and place those female families on the back burner.
Those without sin cast the first stone.
