This cross saint ballido and sunday silence to mr prospector mares with northern dancer on the bottom has produced some nice g1 champions like saint liam, popular, silent honor3, admire main and many more.

Thank you, specifically any Cal. Sires that would be a good fit for her?

She was bred to Cee's Tizzy this year. Best one I could think of for her based on pedigree. Hopefully she can produce a graded stakes winner like her dam and siblings :D

Well that poor mare... Avenue of Flags and Benchmark... I guess Marino Marini if a trip to KY is not in her future, at least he has no Mr P.

Don't believe in sending mares out of state with foals. Also believe in supporting California sires. It's hard enough having all the problems in this state with mares coming back malnurished and sick or injured foals.
Right Madelyn

By the way mind telling everyone what is wrong with Avenue Of Flags and Benchmark? How about naming some sires you have bred to? Include the mares name to verify.

Since she wasnt a runner herself and from what I can find her foals havent started yet Id personally go with a proven horse that compliments her conformation. What does her Benchmark colt look like? If he looks the part, you could do that again. Theres several good proven horses in CA. El Prado is an obvious cross for her, but I dont see any in CA. For a horse thats not proven, Indian Country is an interesting horse. Was a runner, In Excess sire line, which Im liking more and more, and out of a good solid race mare. The line-breeding to Mr. P is a good thing, too.

You can always do as the rest of the entire free world is doing, and breed to a Storm Cat sire.

Derby Dude,

I have a similar bred mare and just bred her to an A.P. Indy son, but after doing an exhaustive 20 minute look I like High Brite as a first choice and Soul of the Matter as a second choice.

Actually, I had much more time this morning to look at this... yes, El Prado would be a "natural".. but what about Bartok? Fairy King is a full brother to El Prado. He has had some pretty nice runners and with the move to polytrack in California, good grass breeding offers some real potential there.

I would concur with going to a proven sire. The ones in California that I like are Formal Gold, Salt Lake, Roar, In Excess and Bertrando.

If you're tempted to try an unproven, the Marino Marini foals I've seen have been knockouts.

Thanks, thats more like it. The Benchmark colt will go into the select sale. Her first foal died at two, and the other AOF is in training.

Have you considered Souvenir Copy?

Postby Keith » Sun Jul 16, 2006 6:28 pm

Souvenir Copy may be an option. He is out of a Nureyev mare. Nureyev is a 3/4 brother to Sadlers Wells. I understand going with a proven sire. He is a proven sire who has thrown some nice horses and he is in California. If you shipped her to Kentucky I would think of breeding her to Jade Hunter because she is a half sister to Jadana who is by Jade Hunter. Who knows if El Prado will be a sire of sires? El Prado is a great sire himself but will his sons pan out? Her dam having a good runner by Jade Hunter proves more to me that she is out of a good dam and eventhough her dam did have nice runners by El Prado and Storm Cat. I like a mare who has nice runners by affordable stallions like Jade Hunter. Another horse to consider would be Pure Prize line breeding on Lady Pitt. You may also consider line breeding on Intriguing through a stallion that contains the bloodlines of Numbered Account. The only thing is that your mare has a lot of Native Dancer and Buckpasser Blood and I would even consider outcrossing and breed to In Excess who has done well crossing on Mr. Prospector line mares.

Another unproven new sire is High Demand. He won 5 out of 6 starts, 4 on turf, 1 on dirt, up to 1 1/16. His yearling colts have sold for an average of $167,000. The cross with your mare is similar to Wando, Caesarion, and Danehurst. He's out of Danzig, with Buckpasser coming in thru the dam. He stands at GOLDEN EAGLE FARM for $5000.

You might try Rhythm, a Northern California stalliuon by Mr. Prospector - Numbered Account. Last time I heard, he was less than $5,000, and he had quite a few stakes winners in Kentucky and Australia before coming to California.

The resulting foal would carry the Rasmussen Factor (4s x 5d Intriguing). It would also be 2s x 4d to Mr. Prospector, which has produced quite a few stakes winners, 4s x 5d x 5d Buckpasser, and 3s x 5d Northern Dancer.

All told, the combination of Mr. Prospector, and/or Northern Dancer and/or Buckpasser has been very successful over the years.

How about Beau Genius? It's a bit different but here is my line of thinking.

He has Vice Regal as his broodmare sire, and most of his best winners have returned the Northern Dancer/Victoriana cross. Importantly, it doesn't seem to matter *which* strain of ND/V that cross comes from...so long as it is there. He has winners of $75k + carrying Deputy Minister, Regal Classic, Far North, and Vice Regent. Hansel has a stakes-winning gelding and a very good winning filly out of two different Vice Regent mares.

He will probably not be your first choice if you're looking for a sales foal...

If you are concerned about linebreeding (4s x 5d) to Raise a Native, it's worth mentioning that Beau Genius has quite a few runners with 50+ starts, and seems to be a reasonable source of soundness. His leading runner this year is an 8yo gelding.
