Ideas for a UK or Irish Stallion to cover my mare.

Postby TrishMarks » Sat Jul 22, 2006 10:25 am

My mare is Devils Bag x Vital Laser (Seeking the Gold)

Unfortunately she was struck into in the paddock by my other mare, resulting in a very nasty leg injury. She is fully recovered physically but since then has lost her appetite to race.

Any ideas would be appreiated.

First, I must own up to being quite ignorant of the stallions standing in the UK/Ireland... however I quite like your mare with Generous.

trish,

as always with these things it comes down to price. given luciferous' sire was devils bag, i thought of rahy/singspiel who r from the same family. also kris makes me think of halling. halling has just come back from dubai. none of these are cheap £25-35k, but halling/singspiel are well proven. i plan to send my mare to with approval at lanwades and hes a good deal cheaper , no spring chicken but i think he could work quite well. if you want a bit of a sleeper i rather like a new sire called lucky owners. for a son of danehill hes not that expensive and has an interesting dam side pedigree being from 'down under', which would create some interesting inbreeding further back. hes only £5k. generous 2 as has already been mentioned

best of luck

Matings for Luciferous

Postby Galejade » Mon Jul 24, 2006 12:16 pm

Trish,

Luciferous certainly has a distinguished dam line. Her Grandam was a very good racehorse (TF107) and the dam of 3 SW's whilst her 6th dam won the 1000gns etc! Most of the decent offspring from the line have been 7 to 8F horses although the grandam bred 2 stayers to Slip Anchor and Saddler's Wells.

I would be looking to inject some speed back into the line looking for stallions who have won as 2yO's and who raced around 7 to 8f's. On my short list as fulfilling that criteria, being a good pedigree fit and being cheap would be Elmaamul, Reel Buddy, Tobougg and possibly Firebreak.

Elmaamul might not give you a sales horse but gives you a Rasmussen Factor in Doubly Sure - dam of Diesis and Kris - and a pretty balanced pedigree. Officially he stands for ?2000 but deals can be done and he is a proven sire of Group and SW from a pretty modest bunch of mares. Reel Buddy is unproven but also gives you a Rasmussen factor - to Broadway a good racehorse and a dam of 4 Sw's . He should cost no more than 3-3500. Tobouuggg first crop of 2yO's is going quite well and his pedigree fit with Luciferous is good. Firebreak is effectively a first season sire so is totally unproven but often these stallions are the best to go to if you are looking to sell as a foal.

Good Luck with whatever you choose.

As another sporthorse breeder - I'd love to see what the race folks think of your mare (NICE! bloodline!) put to Hawk Wing, who's standing at Coolmore in Ireland

He's a sort-of cousin to one of our broodmares, who's producing wonderful, big, straight, classy foals for us - and I think he's just a good-looking hunk of a horse!
