Starting to think about 2007 for our newest mare Beach Barbicue who is currently in foal to During. Open to suggestions as always ! Mare has a weanling by Cappucino & yearling by City Zip.

Without knowing anything about her conformation it's hard to offer specifics. On paper, I'd go back to a Mr. P over ND horse--her sire lines, in reverse (I call this reflective inbreeding). Thunder Gulch is a proven horse, which you'd want for an unproven mare. He's fairly priced, too.

Sorry ; should have given a bit more info. We're looking for stallions in N.Y., Pa., Md., Fl., Ky. Ca. is just a bit of a stretch.

Mike C,

Here are the sires I like for your mare's pedigree.

Take Me Out
Halo's Image
Devil His Due
Doneraile Court

You can look at the sales figures for these guys and see what best fits your agenda. All nicked well with your mare.

You should breed to the AP Indy sire line.
Stephen Got Even is the now horse he stands for 25,000.
The werk rating for this cross is:
WERK NICK RATING A++ TM (+2075%)
(based on the A.P. INDY - STORM CAT cross)
5-Generation Inbreeding: SECRETARIAT - 4f x 5f
NORTHERN DANCER - x 5m, 5m

Just throwing this out there as food for thought. Anyone see any reason NOT to try either Royal Academy or Holy Bull here ?

MikeC,

Looking at progeny for both sires and the hypomates I think both choices are good ones for barbicue.

at first blush I thought Royal academy was the better choice, but Holy Bull has some stakes winners too through BBQ lines.

The up front inbreeding to RA dam looks intriguing though. Is a 3x3 equivalent. There some Bull Page, Bull Lea Bull Dog things going on that I like as well.

Holy Bull has some nice things going on with Fappiano side. Either way I'd be proud to own the foal of either pairing.

To some extent I agree with that. The Royal Academy mating might be better thought of as a commercial one although it might be very hard for me to part with that one especially if a filly. RA has done well at the track with Storm Cat and Unbridled and has done very nicely at the sales with Storm Cat given limited opportunities. The only problem I have with the Holy Bull mating is that he's either feast or famine for the most part IMO and not nearly as prolific. Having said that he doesn't sell all that poorly and it would make an interesting decision whether to race / sell given what he can get done with Fappiano. Either way I'm hoping for one helluva 1 - 2 punch ! :D By the way Jon ; after all was said & done we decided to book our other mare, remember Carly Pooh, to Devil His Due for 2007. Poor girl hasn't even delivered this one yet ( Louis Quatorze ) & we've already gotten her pregnant for next year...what a business !

MikeC,

I remember CP and devil his due should be a good next choice. It looks like you will give both your girls good opportunities to be successful.

Lets hope all goes well and babies in the hopper are delivered as matter of fact.
