I need some suggestions as to a good match for this mare, New Things. Breeding to sell, most likely in a regional / state bred program. The mare is correct enough, toes out in one foot just slightly. Is a bit too refined for my taste, I like those bug robust girls. I'd say she is 15.3 and is good in the neck, shoulders, and barrel, is not narrow. She needs a longer hip and some more shape to her front legs.
Her two best foals were by Silver Deputy (too expensive for me) and Caller ID. Both of these are sprinter/milers so I am thinking that a stallion that could run 6f and stretch it out would be ideal. I am in the midwest so I can (and need to) ship most anywhere.
She is dam of a $400+k stake horse and she is 1/2 to a G1 SW so her page is good.

I have a nice Spend a Buck mare in foal to Rocking Trick.. following up on what Michael Ventura said about Buckpasser in his article on The Pedigree Post about Rocking Trick.
I hope you find something good for your mare. I don't know enough about the state program in Oklahoma to figrue out what stallions would qualify and be good for your mare..

So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....
There are several states, Oklahoma, Lousiana, California, Florida, etc where you can bring a mare into the state in-foal to a stallion from anywhere. They have various rules that the mare needs to be bred back to a stallion standing in that state. LA and NM both have very good state bred programs. NM is not a consideration for me since to qualify the mare, she has to be a NM resident. Although OK recently passed the slots, I don't think there are buyers yet for a nice Okie bred. I've done FL bred before, though it seems very competitive with lots of competition from KY. I'm doing an Ontario bred this year for the first time so I have yet to see how that will turn out but the Woodbine sale is strong for a good horse. I'm not that familiar with IN, MI, or IL programs but I haven't seen that their regional sales are that good.
Friends Lake is out of a STB mare, though this isn't Antespend. There was also a recent SW by Stormy Atlantic so maybe something with Seattle Slew close up?

if the Icecapade line is what you are looking for, then there is a stallion standing in Illinois (Hill 'n Dale Farm) called Chicago Six. Chicago Six is a hard knocking racehorse who had 39 starts and won many stakes including a grade III setting a new track record. He won from 6f to 1and1/8 miles on both dirt and turf. Total winnings about 750,000 dollars His best years were at five and six. He was Illinois older horse of the year twice. He is by Wild Again out of Secretaridge (by Secretariat). He is an excellent outcross. I have seen him, and in terms of his conformation I believe he would be considered basically correct, 16.1 hh, but is plain brown, and not flashy looking -just straight and solid. Excellent temperament. He has been covering about 25 mares a year, is a first crop sire, and just had his first two year old winner.
Illinois is one of those states which has an excellent breeders program. At $2500 I would call him a good shot for breed to race. As for breed to sell, it's difficult to know how he would match up with your mare conformation wise, and he is completely unproven at the sales, and I think he will continue to be so until he sires a few winners. So probably not quite what you are looking for but I thought I'd draw attention to him anyway for the benefit of anyone reading this thread. I really liked him, his race record (versatility and longevity), and his pedigree (quality and scope for outcross). For all that Illinois does have an excellent breeders program, some of its best sires are now deceased, and so far there is a dearth of new candidates to replace them. I hope that some who race in Illinois will take a chance on Chicago Six.
