Natalie Beach (ARG)-- Opinions.

Postby ASB » Tue Nov 21, 2006 8:31 pm

One of the mares I purchased at the recent Keeneland November sale is Natalie Beach (ARG), Tempranero-Im Alright, Secretariat.

She was a talented grass mare winning the England's Legend S. at Belmont over such nice fillies as La Reina. She kept great company on the track and loved a distance of ground. Her best race was actually at 1 3/8 and came up just short.

Physically there's no reason why she went for as little as she did. She's a good size mare with a lot of bone. She's got a slightly masculine head but her angles are incredible, very solid built mare, a classic type build... but without being too narrow. Clean legs, again, with lots of bone. The only reason I can fathom she went for her price is her topside being Argentinian and unfamiliar. Pin Oak agrees with that.

Her pedigree is very balanced with great inbreeding done the right way, including carrying the RF to Somethingroyal. Her female family is one of the best in the studbook being an old Wheatley/Phipps clan that brought us Majestic Light.

I normally know right away who I want to breed to and never second guess myself but something about this mare has me questioning a few things.

First off, she's been accepted to Maria's Mon who fits her best pedigree-wise in my head. I like the RF it brings and its a pretty balanced pedigree. But again, second guessing myself.

Anyone have any other suggestions? Kentucky... up to 75k... colt will be sold, filly will be retained.

I like your mare with Tiznow more than Maria's Mon and I know the fee is higher but it is within your stated range. Tiznow avoids the Raise a Native line.
So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....

Actually Maria's Mon is 60k for next year. So he's quite expensive compared to Tiznow. I just cant quite get behind Tiznow. He doesnt seem to produce consistently. What about the cross do you like?

My advice is for a tough, rustic cross.
Let me say,
in KY Horse Chestnut, or Birdstone
in PA Cetewayo

If you believe in heavy inbreeding you may trust in Perfect Soul
