NJ Stallions
Hey guys,
I just found out recently that if you breed to a New Jersey stallion, but drop the foal say in PA, the foal is still eligible to run in NJ-bred restricted races anyway, in addition to the other state's bonus programs.
This is a great program. NJ restricted MSW and allowance purses are really good.
Brendan, can you elaborate?

No..I have a full brother to Camacthmagnificient. Little sucker bit me today too! he is going to be a good one and I love that he can run in both NY and NJ so I can have some fun if I dont sell him. Sadly his dam died the same day that Camac won the NJ Futuriry, so I wasnt able to get my dream filly from her.

Yes it is great - since my 2 yr. old is still on stall rest at the NJ Equine Clinc after the trainer ruined her knees!! - I've been looking for a NJ stallion so she'll be close. I'm taking her to Mo Mon, a son of Maria's Mon. He's really nice and a great buy @$2,500 then foaling in PA. The Black Tie Affair/Lord at War/Seattle Slew pedigree of my filly matches well with him.
Horses are pure love.

Denise you have it correct--- you can have a dual state registered foal if you breed to a NJ stallion and then meet the requirements for the state you plan to foal the mare in as well. There are a very limited number of foals being produced in NJ now and the purse structure is very attractive. I am dropping some of my NJ sired foals in NY this year.
In NJ I would recommend looking at Defrere and Close Up.
I also stand a stallion named Honor Defend. His first crop should race this year and then hopefully you will have heard of him. He has a great pedigree and his babies have all looked great, now they just have to run well. I have bred many of my own mares to him. He only gets about 10 mares a year to cover but every foal has looked very nice.
Hope that helps a little.

I think the NJ deal is fantastic and should really help out their stallions with getting mares. It should be an awfully attractive prospect if the stallion is exactly what you're looking for. Then you can foal her at home, get dual accreditation, save on mare care, and know she's being looked after as well as she should be. Just a really good deal for NJ stallion managers and the breeders who go there!

There are really only a few stallions I would consider in NJ, in no particular order: Defrere, Crafty Friend, Deputy Warlock, Unbridled Jet and maybe Mo Mon....someone mentioned Close Up...I can't take any mare to him, unless I had the dam of Joey P., who is his only real runner.
But the program is excellent, even if you are dropping your foal in NJ, great awards program, probably one of the best in the country, unfortunately they don't have the funds to pay out what they need to. Maybe with the new casino agreement on the way or if they ever decide to put slots in they'll be able to pay breeders awards without caps, then it will definitely be the best awards program in the country.
