Why the GSV and GSV2 Work!

Why The GSV and the GSV2 Work!
The GSV and GSV2 are simply two versions of a number system based on a 5 generation thoroughbred's pedigree. Many people who gamble on the breeding and/or betting of thoroughbreds think all number systems are doomed to fail in the long run. Yes, they believe that over the short term profits can be made, but breeders or bettors are bound to be the loser over the long haul with a number system in such a tough, tough game. I finds it difficult to blame them because touts, breeding theorists, etc., have all too often caused their followers to lose far more that they would have otherwise lost if left to their own devices.

However, number systems succeed all the time. This is especially true in Casino's. The house use number systems in their favor to ensure a profit, regardless of the game of chance. Thoroughbred breeding and betting is definitely a game of chance.

The GSV and GSV2 both work because they are based on accurately assessing (G)enetics, ( R)acing (A)bility and (S)tud (P)erformance, otherwise known as my GRASP databank. The GRASP databank has over the years produced Champions in Europe and North America and was used successfully to produce a "Broodmare of the Year'. It has almost 400 fields of information for each thoroughbred that I fully analyze. The strength of the GSV and GSV2 is that while some of the information might not have been passed on to the thoroughbred from its parents, with so many variables in play the chances are good that the information on the fields will 'average' out. The foal will usually represent fairly closely what 5 generations of GRASP scores predict.

Proof that the GSV and GSV2 accurately assesses thoroughbred pedigrees is that it has succeeded in making a profit for three successive years without taking jockeys, connections, trainers, odds and sometimes common sense into consideration.

Thanks to Adrian Parry from the UAE, a study of every maiden race (913) run in England in 2004 helped to refine the GSV to move from a breeding tool to also include it as a successful betting tool. Today, April 7, 2007, I bet Taiga in the Santa Anita Derby-G1. He was a maiden against stakewinners, but he had the highest GSV and GSV2 number and went off at 25-1. He won. I also bet Christmas Kid in the Ashland-G1 at Keeneland because she had the highest scores and she paid $21.00 to win. I bet Sightseeing who ran his high odds into second for a $7.20 pay out to place in the Grade 1 Wood at Aqueduct. Earlier in the card, I hit Jamacian Kev at 15/1 in a six horse field and used him to key a good pick 3.

I have found and documented on my website (www.members.shaw.ca/thematchmaker) that the GSV scores may lose 10 races in a row, but then comes back with a 15/1 horse to give me an overall profit. Often I can win 3 or 4 races on a card, but at fairly small prices, which nevertheless gives me a win on the day. I can have two or three losing days, only to come back with a couple of monster pays. I believe it can stand alone, but with good handicapping even more profits can be gained.

Using the GSV and GSV2 scores has solid potential to bring you success in the breeding shed. Often that will later translate to profits at the racetrack for all connected with the horse. But just as in using the GSV and GSV2 as a betting tool, it will fail in individual cases to produce good results. However, in the long run the breeder will produce on 'average' better horses and maybe a Kentucky or Epsom Derby winner. It is a number system that puts the 'odds' in your favor over the long run.
