I am in Illinois and was wondering if anyone could give me some advise on breeding my mare. Her name is Your Selection.

I was considering Friendly Lover, I like that he is out of a Great Above mare.

Bring her to Indiana and breed him to my new Woodman stallion, Native Rhythm.

I think if you are serious about promoting your stallion, you need to stop calling mares "him".

On a more basic level. Where is your stallion located(address)? Price? Pics? Other stallions? Contact person? Phone info?

LOL... ok... I admit I jumped in without giving much info. As we aren't breeding until 2008, some of those details are not hashed out.

What I can tell you is that Native Rhythm is a stakes-placed son of Woodman, out of the G2 sprinter Igotrhythm, by Dixieland Band. His dam is 1/2 sister to good sire Slew Gin Fizz.

Native Rhythm is from the immediate family of Mr. Prospector and inbred to Gold Digger 3X4.

To be honest, I'm not certain where he will stand, what his stud fee is, etc.

I wish Native Rhythm a happy and successful stallion career.. something you might consider at this juncture is a test breeding to see if he gets a mare in foal. It would also provide you an opportunity to teach him to breed, and teach him breeding handling. Just because TB breeding season closes in June.. well don't tell all those other breed mares the continue to cycle into late fall. Find an old hussy that has had foals and knows which end the stallion should be at.

It is a very tough row to hoe, to promote a stallion, and if you can at least attest to his fertility you are partway there.. then if you manage to get him 15 or 20 of your own mares at least he will have numbers.

If I could get 10-15 mares in Indiana I would be content. I'm going to have 2 or 3 of my own.

I like Bright Launch with your mare. Inbreeding to The Axe has been very successful (about 12-14% stakes horses). He's not too far, can throw a big horse but should help any conformational question marks as well.
