Thoroughbred Sporthorse Sires Illinois

Postby faithfulfriend » Thu Aug 30, 2007 10:16 am

What thoroughbred stallions would sporthorse breeders be looking at in Illinois or more broadly the midwest? I think most sporthorse WB stallions cap out at about a $5000 stud fee, so perhaps that should be the limit for TB stallions as well. And sporthorse breeders look for height, good bone, movement and temperment. Anyone like to recommend some stallions?

I am in Illinois and I am bringing back one of our stallions from Kansas for the sporthorse market.

His name is Big Splash. He has several foals doing fabulous on the 'A' curcuit and I have a hard time coming up with enough of his OTTB babies for clients. So, we're trying him for a year at public stud for the sporthorse world.

It seems like everyone wants to breed something, but we'll see where the mares are when I start handing out contracts.
