Need your superfantastic advice...

Postby TB Dreamin' » Sat Sep 22, 2007 12:41 pm

:D Hey everyone-

I'm looking for everyone's thoughts about this mare as a broodmare prospect:

Skip Anda Wink by Skip Away o/o Glance

And, if you thought she had possibilities, what a fair price would be for her-I believe she's open. I forgot to mention, I would like to think I'm breeding for the commercial sale.

Thank ya kindly!

My best guess on value would be $2,000.00 to $4,000.00. Not to say she won't make a great broodmare but don't see enough black type to value her higher.

If money was no object I love E Dubai with her. He loves Damascus line mares plus you sex balance the Nashua. Kela is another that fits. Good luck with her.

I rather like Albert the Great for her, crossing her back to her own female family, and bringing in Cormorant (see Karakorum Starlet). There is something commercially wrong, though, with spending $7500 on a stud fee that is worth "$2,000 to $4,000" and if you are really looking for a commercial breeding I might pass on this mare. Skip Away is NOT setting the world on fire as a broodmare sire, on the other hand if this is a positively stunning mare that you think will throw a knockout foal.. well it is all a bit of a crapshoot anyway. In her favor, she is a YOUNG mare and the family is being bred well.

If the Sale That Never Ends (Keeneland September) has taught us anything it is that a mare MUST have GOOD blacktype under the first dam. And the economic rule of thumb in the industry includes to breed a mare to a stallion who stands for 1/4 to 1/3 of her value. With Keeneland November looming, economically you might be better off to see what you can purchase already in foal..

hi TB Dreamin'

For what it's worth...most of the Skip Aways that I've seen were too light behind etc (for my taste); although I can't recall watching one of the better Skip Aways race, that wasn't quite strong-looking behind.

With that in mind, and without knowing what your mare looks like and/or how she's made, I would suggest that it might be in your best interest to select a stallion (for your Skip Away daughter) that is nothing short of a powerhouse behind.

Best of luck.

Respectfully

Advice on Skip Anda...

Postby TB Dreamin' » Sun Sep 23, 2007 3:55 pm

Thank you everyone, I actually have not seen this mare yet, everyone who knows me, knows I'm looking, and a friend gave this mare's info to my husband.

Roar-who or what is Bingo? Just like saying "Wow?" Or is it a stallion???
Oh, and why do you like Any Given Sat. w/her?

hpkingjr-thank you for your advice on her "worth-" that's the thing I'm never sure of...they're asking $7500, I believe, so that would be twice as much as you thought. I like EDubai, too, but would that be too much of a stud fee for her worth?

Madelyn-I hear ya...I'm so anxious for those Nov. catalogs to come out, and you suggested that before...I just never know if I could have found a diamond in the rough...but w/5553 yearlings this year, I don't just want to breed a so-so mare, do I??? Hey, one concern for me, Skip Away doesn't even make the top 100 bm sires...is that a big concern for everyone looking for bm's? Maybe that's a stupid question, but not every bm out there breeding has a daddy on the list...just wondering....

FOS-Thanks for the advice, I'll keep that in mind, if I do indeed buy her...

We like her with Midas Eyes. 4x4 Buckpasser in the 4th. generation produces great racehorses. Inbreeding to Neartic, same blood different strain. Plus you have the two great mares Wavy Navy and Busanda giving you inbreeding to War Admiral. We think Midas Eyes will be a good sire thru his Bayou Hebert blood.

We don't like the E Dubai cross. Nashua is in the wrong place and does not utilize Buckpasser. Same with Kela, only good cross here is the same blood, different strain thru Nashua and Iron Ruler.

Any Given Saturday gives only one cross, that with Diplomat Way and Spectacular Bid same blood different strain again. Spectacular Bid is of course from twin line. If you want more information on that just contact us about twins.

In Albert The Great we like the inbreeding to Passing Look. Very nice, but no Cigar. You must have more then one nick to produce a good racehorse.

If you need more help, just contact us.

i LIKE HER! She has a great Canadian family, and her first dam has two stakes fillies. For a commerical foal, find yourself the nicest newest stallion at a place that supports its studs and breed to him. I truly believe that will work out best.

Now, if you were breeding for a race prospect.......

Not making any suggestions but her female side seemed to like the Vice Regent line.

I like what her family has done but I'm not wild about the price. According to the database, she was in a $4k claiming race earlier this year.
If it was up to me, I'd negotiate the price down or move on.

Of course, you should take my advice for what it's worth (cough...ahem..). Whatever that may be.
