Ended up with this mare!!

Postby Jenny » Mon Nov 05, 2007 3:35 pm

You know the story, come to board, then decide they don't want the horse anymore. So I would like to know more about her " Cabbagetowner" by wiskey wisdom. Is she worth keeping to breed?

Jenny, if this mare's conformation is acceptable, she has a very nice pedigree to become a useful broodmare. Hope you get her and breed her to a nice stallion.

I already have her. She is hanging out with the rest of my broodmares. I just have to decide which ones to keep and which ones to sell. I can see her pedigree on the query I just would like to know more. Dams progeny etc. If anyone wants to post from their APR. :D
As far as confirmation goes. This mare is the most gorgeous thing I have ever seen. dark bay with white star. Extremely well put together and is about 16.2+ She would make a really nice warmblood, sporthorse broodie for sure. A definite 10 in the movement department as well.

I would not hesitate to breed her Holsteiner or Belgium WB.

Sorry Helen but i would like a race horse. I have too many riding horses as it is. I just want to know if her dam was a stakes producer etc.

Her Dam is a stakes winner, and looks like she produced around 3 winners but the info in the database is not up to date.

Her 2nd Dam ran second in the G1 Deleware Handicap & won some others and made over $140K back in the 70's.

This would not be a tough decision for me.

Thank you JaradM. I guess that is a yes in the breeding department.
I just looked her up here on the query and she is a descendant of Aloe. through Persian Made. Maven was just commenting on her lines. I have another mare from the same lines. ( not as successful) I had no idea. And since there is black type throughout I guess I will keep her. AWESOME I finally have a half decent mare!!
Does anyone know anything about Ian Made? not much noted on the query.

I think your best bet would be Mr Prospector line, preferably one with Mixed Marriage in there to capitalize on her tail-female line. Persian Maid was an excellent mare.

The most common sources of Mixed Marriage are Gone West and Known Fact. If you can find Tentam, who died young, so much the better.

I believe in your post about Jenny Bug you said you were willing to ship to NY or KY.

In New York, look at Western Expression. This son of Gone West has had decent results so far. You may want to pay fairly close attention to physical matchups in this one, as he would also provide linebreeding to Broadway. That mare's descendants are not always well-regarded for soundness--but if your mare was quite sound, don't let that stop you. Western Expression's crops who are 3 or older are averaging 10 starts per foal, and 14 starts per starter. Western Expression himself made 16 starts as a 3 and 4yo.

In Kentucky, take a look at Canadian Frontier. He doesn't have foals to race, but he is nicely-bred and well-priced.

To go along with what KM said, another source of Mixed Marriage is Atan which can be found through his sons Sharpen Up (Diesis, Kris, Selkirk, Trempolino, etc.)

There's only a few stallions with him this side of the pond but Action This Day in Kentucky, Cetewayo in PA, and Meadaaar in NY all have him.
Don't be so humble - you are not that great.

Thanks guys
What about Trajectory who stands in Ontario. He is by Gone West, then I would have a horse that qualifies for all the Ontario Sires stuff, which can be very lucrative. let me know!

Jenny...I laughed when I read your 1st post, I had a few come to board and decide to stay as mine! this past spring. If you do decide to go with Maven's suggestion about Diesis...Meadaaar would love to meet your "new" mare :D
