2 girls - same date?? Help! New to this

Postby bentlers » Mon Nov 12, 2007 9:50 pm

I have a War Deputy mare that did not race and she is out of a Fuzzbuster dam. I really love the look of a stallion named Shelter in Southern Ontario. He is Seeking the Gold and out of a Storm Cat mare. How does this mating look if I am breeding to race? I am new at this so I want honest opinions.
I also have a Sunnys Halo mare out of a Naskra mare. Same stallion. Any opinions? :?

If you can give the names of both mares and stallions our members could help you better.

Hi sorry, the mares are Armistice Day and Stormproof. The stallion I really like is Shelter. Thank you.

If Armisitce is a good physical match to Shelter, I see no problem with the mating. Interestingly, you would get a 17 cross linebreeding to Teddy and 5x5 to Tom Fool and Hasty Road, both 2yold champions in their respective years..

Thanks for the information Zinn. So I have booked Armistice to Shelter for this season coming up. Now what to do with Storm? I really like the look of Shelter. Would he not match her as well on paper? Physically he is good for them both but I reallly do not know enough about the pedigree part of all of this. What else is out there in Southern Ontario that I do not have to go far? I have looked and could not find anything that I liked physically. Any advice would be great.

GONE FISHIN is in Wellandport. Winner of almost 500k, won or placed in 6 graded stakes in Canada and the U.S G3's and G2's. Very nice looking specimen. 16.2, big boned also very well bred. Same stud fee as Shelter. :D
Check him out at stonebriarstables.ca He is standing at Hillside Thoroughbreds.

Almahmoud is the 2nd dam of both Northern Dancer ( 3x4 in Gone Fishin's pedigree, through a son and a daughter) and Halo. Crossing descendants of Almahmoud is always a good idea, as we see in pedigrees of horses like Strees Sense Congaree, Ashado, Lost in the Fog etc. Halos is a son of Hail to Reason which gives us 2 reasons to like the idea of Stormproof with Gone Fishin. Hail to Reason is an excellent match with Danzig lines and crossing him with GF's pedigree helps to strengthen the influence of Plucky Liege.
Hail to Reason's sons Halo and Roberto both carry balanced inbreeding to Blue larkspur, as does Seattle Slew. Crossing these 3 stallions with Gf works well in the reinforcement of balanced inbreeding to Blue larkspur.

Just food for thought.

Ok, so I have booked both mares to Shelter. I looked at alot of Ontario stallions and physically Shelter meets what I am looking for. I did see mostly photos of the other boys but none of them did anything for me. I also talked to a couple of trainers and they did not think that I could go wrong with either mating with the Seeking the Gold and the Storm Cat so I went ahead. I need the physical thing as if they do not make it on the track I will be showing them. Thanks for the suggestion Jenny but conformationally I really like Shelter.
