Millennial Meeting

Postby mellove111 » Thu Nov 15, 2007 7:35 pm

I just acquired a mare, Millennial Meeting, by General Meeting and out of Volley Dolly. She's California bred but somehow made her way to Texas, where I now have her. I have ridden hunter/jumpers for years now and always owned TBs off the track. This mare is gorgeous. about 16.2, liver chestnut, 4 stockings up to her knees and a big blaze. She's got the chrome we all like and she has a wonderful temperment. We got her to breed. All we know is that as a yearling she was sold for 20K, was claimed for 40K as a 2 yr old, and she won about 33K total. Not spectacular herself but her sire from everything I've read is quite a nice horse. I have a dillema... I'm not planning on keeping her first baby but Do I breed her to a TB for a racehorse to sell off as a yearling or do I breed her to a warmblood for a sporthorse baby. I know that a warmblood yearling will sell for around 5K. Since she was not that spectacular on the track, a race baby wouldn't sell for that much, especially in Texas? Right? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I think if the warmblood market is still currently getting 5k for a yearling.
You might look that direction.

Hi

I looked at the warmblood market and found with at least some registries the mare had to be inspected and approved for the foal to have any value.

Yeah, we've found an Oldenburg stud that we're considering breeding her to. If we go in that direction, we'll go ahead and breed her next spring and then have her inspected while she's in foal. If she is approved the baby will be registered as an Oldenburg or ISR. If not the baby will be advertised as an Oldenburg/TB cross. That sure doesn't look bad to anyone. That is all considering that we breed her to a warmblood instead of a TB and that I don't keep it. If it comes out at all lookin like its momma it may be sticking around for my own hunter/jumper prospect.
