Ozilda's Gale 1996
mare by FOUNTAIN OF GOLD (full brother to Distinctive Pro) out of OH SAYS OZILDA by OH SAY. Thinking of purchasing to breed to Successful Ways. Your thoughts would be appreciated, cj

Thanks, Larrygene.... I take it you think it would be a good cross. Loved the play on the ups and downs  She is 12 and in foal now to Gibson County. I was a little concerned with age but she sure had soundness going for her on the track circuit 60+ races. 16 wins on her papers though the record says 14, 9 places and 7 shows. Appreciate the reply. Have a great day, cj

Gee Foggy, I am still learning... thought you were saying because her win record was not correct maybe I better figure her earnings were around 71K  Thanks for that info! I printed her bris page out and they only have 14 wins for her. The man showed me her papers and she has 16 wins on them. cj

Brisnet would have the right numbers. 14 wins. Foggy was telling you the mare's highest speed rating was 71. Not fast.

Hi Madelyn,
Yep figured it out when he sent it.... What do you think of her crossed with SW? She is very correct and the older man that has her said she never had an unsound day while racing. That is what I would do with the foal.

It's a tough call. Her dam produced some minor stakes horses, the best being by Piccolino (Mr. P line through Fappiano). Since she is by Fountain of Gold, Mr. P is already there. It is always worth a try. It would be a foal you would most likely race yourself?

Yes, we want to get some foals to the track. Or of course we may sell the foal to someone else for racing... Our goal is to get those babies running. of course we have to wait until they are ready, being it's his first year, we have at least 3 years til then  How do you feel about in breeding? Like to a mare with say Halo to SW? By the way, is there a difference in "line breeding" and "in breeding" or are they the same?

Honestly I think you can do better than this mare even if you're looking to spend very little.

If it took her 65 starts, and probably 4 to 5 years of racing, to earn around $88,000 then she had to be running mostly in very cheap races and she still didn't pay her way when you consider what it costs to race one for 4 or 5 years.

Sometimes people love to laud these cheap horses who made a lot of starts for their soundness, but a slow horse is a sound horse. And if they're racing at a lower level (even if they're winning their share) the longer they run the more money they burn

Personally I'd take a mare with a short, but brilliant and classy, career anyday over a mare who ran for years at the bottom.

And pedigree wise I don't see a lot to love about this mare and I don't see anything about her pedigree that would make her an especially good match for your stallion.

And while I don't know the mares whole produce record, from looking at pedigree query she's just got one cheap winner and that's probably all this mare is going to throw in the future is cheap winners which isn't going the help make your stallion. I mean everybody winds up with cheap winners once in a while, and you're glad to have them make back some of the money you've spent on them, but nobdoy sets out to breed a horse who can win a $10,000 maiden claimer and if that seems to be the ceiling for a potential mating rather than one of the worst case scenarios I would look elsewhere.

Thank you for the evaluation of the mare. If you know of any mares that would cross well with SW, in the central Fl area, please let me know. Cj
