I'm stumped and need help

Postby Gerry » Thu Mar 06, 2008 7:58 am

I am trying to decide who to breed Lipstick Kiss http://www.pedigreequery.com/lipstick+kiss to this year. I am leaning toward Inklet or Max Patch to add the Northern Dancer thru Dixieland Band or possibly Jelly Roll Romp still getting some ND but also Runaway Groom. She has a 3yr old filly by Desert Warrior who ran 4th in her 1st start and is going tonite, and a nice yearling by Mayakovsky. Any suggestions? She is staying home so the choices are:
Max Patch
Inklet
Not A Corgi
Allawinir
Meadaaar
Jelly Roll Romp
Halo's Stride
Stormin Toger
Dunsinyne
The Pawn Broker

Thanks!

Gerry, I don't have any advice (I think Jelly Roll Romp is a very nice looking boy so I'd be biased). But, wow, what a nice problem to have: which of my multiple stallions that fit with this mare to beed to? :D

Jelly is beautiful isnt he? We have been very lucky blessed with wonderful stallion owners who really give us a well rounded stallion roster to work with.

I am leaning towards Inklet, but Max has a tremendous racerecord..with a HUGE closing kick. I watched Lipstick's daughter run last night and she is a closer (didnt do well last night though) and I am thinking the kick of Max would really be amazing. Luckily she isnt ready to breed yet.

Admittedly, I'm biased ;-) but, take a look a the following and take from it what you will:

Andover Lady

Cellars Shiraz

Cellars Merlot

Raise The Prize

There's quite a few 1-c family mares bred to Kris S. or his sons and they appear to be decent enough runners...

Doesn't it depend on whether what you are breeding for? And what the mare needs to improve the foal's conformation or not make it worse? And a whole bunch of other factors?

That said, if it were I, and I would be breeding for stamina and a career after racing, I'd go with Halo's Stride. Picks up another Hail To Reason line and Nasrullah and another Princequillo line, and he's damn fine looking.

Sam..what bias? Gives me another decision to make thanks!

Vineyridge..goal is to get a hard knocking durable runner, post race career of show or broodie.Max Patch definitely fits the bill he placed in 39 of 62 starts with 11 wins. But I agree that Halo's Stride is a looker, and he has a great book of mares this year.

Thanks CampRiver! I am very pleased with our stallions and they all are so easy to work around that I have gotten very lucky!! I have to make this decision soon and Inklet is the leading candidate right now.

What about Captain Red?
We had this mare at our farm at one point, I remember her confirmation and think Captain Red will throw a great looking foal to race. His first crop are 2yr olds this year, so look out for them.
The hypo mating is http://www.pedigreequery.com/p/30735.php

Thanks for the suggestion of Captain Red...I saw him 2 summers ago and was quite impressed but we are staying home with all our mares this year. Had decided to send a few out but things changed and I love our stallions so will stay home. But that is a consideration for next year if she is still here.
We will be breeding her to Inklet in the next few days.

Well goodluck with her - I saw you were located in NY, so thought Captain Red might have been within travelling distance. He will definately be here next year.

Any reason Mayakovsky is not a consideration again? How do you like your baby by him?

The mating is quite interesting on paper. I like the reinjection of Raise A Native through Raise A Man and the Knights Daughter duplications are fantastic. A real blend of speed and stamina in the pedigree..

Zinn..I like Mayakovsky alot. I actually have a mare "Tell Capote" from his female family. The '07 filly is very nice but she belongs to a client and I am leasing the mare for this year. With the cost of everything rising and the great stallions that we have at home, we decided that all our mares are staying inhouse this year.
