I'm having this ongoing discussion with the folks at our boarding farm & wanted to get a few other opinions.
How common is it in the U. S. to breed 3 yr. old thoroughbred fillies with the intention of racing the foal ? I understand it's pretty ordinary in Europe but I've not heard much of it here.
Commonplace ?

OH ! Guess I've been asleep at the wheel then. Might even switch to plan B with our filly Bali Hai ... breed her rather than return her to the trainer next year. Hell ; there's only about 600 Grand Daughters of Seattle Slew left lol.
Any thoughts on possible matings ?

What about Cryptoclearance? He seems to get on quite well with Vice Regal and Vice Regent (such as Victory Gallop and Cryptocloser). He's outcross for 5 generations, but starting in the 6th generation you start picking up some really interesting linebreeding patterns--the blue hen mare Alablue via Alanesian and Mock Orange (the cross that produced Ride the Rails), Princequillo through Round Table, Cequillo, Prince John, and Dedicate, and Roman via Pocahontas and When in Rome.
Okay ; that's pretty cool 'caise I did look at him just yesterday. Goldmine has that as a 20/20 mating and, although I'm not all that familiar with goldmine, apparently as Martha would say " it's a good thing."
The only reason I balked at that mating is the huge age difference between stallion & filly. That plus should we ever decide to sell the foal it's a lost cause. Nice pick up though !!!
