Difficulty Getting Mare in Foal-Two years
I was wondering if there was somebody out there who could help shed some light and recommend based on experience what I should do next. Two years ago I claimed a mare off the track after a modest racing career. Her name is Thatsmygeorgiegirl(Sefapiano-BMS-Lear Fan). Quite a large horse at 18hh, and a powerhouse at the distance. Took her home and bred her two years in a row to two different stallions-and nothing. She was in foal last year but absorbed after getting and infection. This year-bred twice nothing. The first year off the track-I had a hard time keeping any weight on her and her front feet were in constant abcesses mode(never seen anything like it in my life)-this year the complete opposite-she's gained weight and actually looks great-feet have been minimal for issues.
Vets has checked her multiple times through Ultrasound-and she's sound all round. Very frustrated-I've been told that mares off the track take multiple years to flush there systems and become good broodmares. Is this true?

Has your vet performed an endometrial biopsy on your mare? This may shed some light on the situation. Does she have an exaggerated slope to her vagina and/or a sunken anus? Either can lead to infection in the uterus and the former can cause urine pooling. Is your mare overweight? Does she have a caslicks?
It can be true that mares off the track need time to recover from steroids and the like. Some mares need a year to "let down" before they will get in foal. Maybe your mare just wanted an extra year
Some of the drugs used at the track can have a negative effect on fertility. Good luck!

I'm having similar difficulty with my 16 yo mare. The Vet tells me it could be 1000 different possibilites. We're doing some test to eliminate some possibilites. Her culture is clean, her general health is good. Her cycles were inconsistant and prolonged. I seems to me the answer is to start crossing off the possibilites until the problem is detected.

Get Mare In Foal
If the mare is in good general health, get red rasberry leaves and feed her (any health store) she will get in foal and carry full term...It works everytime!!! Just MHO....

In humans raspberry leaf is known around the world and used in lots of native cultures to "stabilize" female cycles. Stops mood swings, pms, cramps the whole thing. Also is supposed to promote a healthy pregnancy. In humans it is taken as a tea. 2-3 cups a day with about a teaspoon of dried leaf per cup.
