Sweet Fern, Lipinski - Any broodmare potential?

Postby Supernova » Wed Oct 29, 2008 1:32 pm

Do you think either may have broodmare potential?

Sweet Fern 2003 - has had one foal, may be unregistered
Lipinski 1996

Thanks!

No.

There are mares out there right now that people will give you for "free" that are much better prospects than these two.

Lipinski is 12 so she's already had a shot as a broodmare and hasn't produced anything worthwhile.

Sweet Fern is by a nothing sire and was a nothing runner.

I agree with HYP. Sweet Fern is a half to a SW and her dam is a full to 2 SWs (including Pro Flight who earned over $300k) - which is very good. But, Sweet Fern herself is unplaced and her dam is unraced, plus SF's sire is unremarkable. I've seen way worse mares produce good runners, so you never know. But, unless you're really in love and are prepared to support the foal yourself - I'd pass on her.

As for Lipinski... I see she's by The Prime Minister. He puts some gorgeous foals on the ground. But, he hasn't lived up to his drool-worthy pedigree as a sire. I don't have the most current produce record for this mare, but it doesn't look like she's been to the greatest stallions out there. Still, she hasn't really done much produce-wise and she herself was unplaced in a few tries. Again, I've seen way worse mares do well. But, this is another case where you'd probably be stuck with the foal.
