Pedigree Advice for Mare full sister to stakes placed mare

Postby vallygirl927 » Sun Mar 22, 2009 10:56 pm

This filly is out of a modest sire, Swiss Yodeler, but is a full sister to Lovehi, who is stakes placed and a very good allowance runner in CA (just won a $53,000 allowance race in Feb). She seems to have a nice female family, but I'm curious as to what people think of a a broodmare by a modest sire, such as swiss yodeler. The filly's registered name is Blondie out of Love Lemhi.

Thanks

This is a three year old filly that hasn't started. Has she been injured or is she a late bloomer or has the owner just not put her into training for some reason? I'd like to see her get an opportunity to run before being bred, but if that's not in the cards, if she's got decent conformation, she might make a decent broodmare.

She's got a pretty decent pedigree with some black type close up, especially compared to some mares that people are breeding. Her dam's already produced 2 winners with 1 stakes placed, her granddam was a hard-knocking stakes winner, and her third dam (I think) produced 3 black type winners. Her full sister is a pretty hard-knocking mare, and her granddam was the same.

I wouldn't hold Swiss Yodeler's modest stud record against her because a lot of times how well stallions do is really dependent on the quality of mares they get, and some of these not-so-great stallions prove to be good BMS when their daughters are bred to decent stallions.

Ok I see your point. I've been emailing with the owner and he said he got her from the breeder. He picks up thoroughbreds off the track. He mentioned she is really quiet and that she just didn't want to run. Hmm, I don't know what the full story really is, but I would like to also see her have the opportunity to run. My guess is that something stopped them from running her. I'll have to work on finding more out. But she's definetly priced right.

Maybe she just doesn't have the temperament to be a race horse ... or maybe she needs more time to mature. At any rate, it sounds like the owners just want to cut their losses, so she's worth a look, and she might be a nice pick up. I think she'd be a better BM prospect than a filly who's run a dozen times and hasn't hit the board once ...

So, found out a little more about this filly. She has an old healed minor bow from last year and trainer thought enough of her to try to bring her back from it. She had one start last october, and just wasn't showing the potential they were hoping for. She was having good weeks and then bad weeks and they decided to retire her to the people who own her now. So, a race career is out of the option for her, but does anyone else think she could be a decent broodmare?

What kind of foal do you want out of this horse? Have you made plans of what you want or a target goal.
I think the biggest question that you should concider is what do YOU want?
Racing, Riding, Jumping?

Have you looked around in the market to find out what Swiss Yodeler mares go well with which stallions since her job is reporducation..
